the james bond movies always play within a sandbox that i'm not sure if there's anything more creative left to do there. maybe the best option is for the franchise take a long hiatus or come up with something extremely off the wall and interesting.

I’ve always maintained Spectre is the 2nd best of the Craig bonds and Skyfall is immensely overrated

Spectre has the best cinematography of these new movies but also I appreciate how much more it leans into its chilling and mysterious elements whereas Skyfall felt quite predictable by comparison.

No Time to Die > Skyfall for me as well despite its boring feminist mishandling of Bonds character

What an awful take..Skyfall blows Spectre and NTTD out of the water, and it’s not even close..Big part of that is due to Roger Deakins and his brilliant cinematography

Skyfalls cinematography is great but also often just feels like a glossier shot by shot of a generic action movie

Deakins doesn’t really use the cinematography beyond a level of “oh that looks cool”. His cinematography never makes me feel anything even remotely close to how Hoyte made me feel with his brilliant playing of the lighting during the pivotal introduction to Blofield or the brooding shot by shot leading up to “kite in a hurricane” moment. Or even the amazing opening scene. Hoytes cinematography and even Landgrens cinematography in NTTD had fun with the action or the tension and used clever ways to immerse you in the action and mystery. Deakins doesn’t achieve that. He films action in a very basic way but just makes the settings and background look very beautiful.
