because it divides the quality of education along financial lines. if rich people can live in the suburbs, avoid taxation which would benefit inner city children, and then send their white ass kids to private schools in my city; how does this benefit black kids who dont even have the option? it is a de facto type of racial segregation, it dont matter how many black kids you give scholarships to.
how can this be remedied
how can this be remedied
by properly funding public education and letting these private schools die off
Jay Z def a charter school guy. Hate to see it
They're all subsidized and suck funding from public schools that are already f***ed. Not unionized either

are u sure the issue is money and not leadership
are u sure the issue is money and not leadership
its both simultaneously
How
Colleges get big endowments from many individual rich donors or interest groups that affect how universities operate, such as enrollment. Many universities that want to be seen as Ivy League tier schools will then market to more predominantly white upper middle class families, which leads to college towns gentrifying poor areas and essentially having a monopoly on employment within the area
Many corporations, such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin have job fairs at many schools, employees that come to give lectures, etc to pipeline students into becoming eventual employees for the MIC. This is even more apparent in Ivy League schools such as Harvard or Yale where many former Presidents and other high level politicians in Washington attend, then later go on to work at major media outlets or outright WH positions…
More egregiously if you’ve paid attention to the Palestine protests at many universities, they have called for Divestment as a goal, meaning to stop giving money to companies such as Lockheed Martin, etc who directly assist in building weapons to aid in Israel’s genocide
These aren’t wild demands, but they do affect universities at a material level and directly clash with the conflict of interests of the ruling class, so they have been met with police oppression
Not trying to make anything sound sinister but this is just the reality of the system works
The same vitriol yall have for Jay needs to be redirected towards the senators, congressman and state reps that create these problems in the first place.
None of you niggas volunteer in your neighborhoods. None of you niggas vote in the local elections or try to become politicians yourself to change conditions instead y'all just wanna be lazy, complacent internet trolls and arm chair protestor cucks.
A good deed is a good deed.
Roc Nation has spearheaded plenty of philanthropic initiatives in the past, and Jay-Z’s company’s latest campaign hones in on improving youth education for students in Philadelphia.
The Roc announced an initiative on Friday (June 7) that will assist students with about $300 million in scholarships.
The funding will give underprivileged kids in grades K-12 the opportunity to attend prestigious private schools and various educational institutions across Philly.
“We have enjoyed such a special connection with Philadelphians, so we’ve made it our mission to invest in the long-term success of the city’s changemakers,” said Roc Nation Managing Director of Philanthropy Dania Diaz in a statement. “Impact starts with the students and with awareness. We want to empower the youth and families with the knowledge to pursue their scholastic dreams, make their voices heard and become the leaders of tomorrow.”

I’m trying to find more information on this
SB757 is still under consideration and hasn’t been passed yet
legiscan.com/PA/text/SB795/id/2828120
that bill would allow low income students to go to private schools but in my eyes it’s also a tool to enhance funding for the private schools by subsidizing the tuition and fees.
Democrats keep voting against it because they favor legislation that actually puts money into helping the low income public schools on a level playing field.
I don’t know if Roc Nation donated money or what’s really going on with this, but it seems like they’re wanting people to focus more on this supposed $300 million dollars in scholarships than any actual way for these poor communities and schools to benefit from it
bc obviously I’m sure a lot of these students would have to be further evaluated for things like behavior and gpa, and whatever other reasons the private schools make up to keep the “riff-raff” out of their communities.
Realistically, maybe a few dozen kids get to go to these private schools and hopefully it sets them on a good path. but the private schools themselves would have a much greater benefit from this bill passing than the poor communities that it’s supposed to be helping
because it divides the quality of education along financial lines. if rich people can live in the suburbs, avoid taxation which would benefit inner city children, and then send their white ass kids to private schools in my city; how does this benefit black kids who dont even have the option? it is a de facto type of racial segregation, it dont matter how many black kids you give scholarships to.
if you want to give less funding to private schools and give them to public schools i agree with that, they probably dont need it
also i agree with what you said earlier about these kids having to go back to the underprivileged community that they live in after they're done with school for the day, that can definitely f*** with how well someone does in school
but i still think its a positive opportunity for these kids to get a better education
I live in philadelphia, these private schools even existing is part of the problem
Since you live in Philadelphia, I can see why you feel so strongly about this now
What you're saying is valid but private schools are not going away.
we gotta suck every billionaire's d*** for doing the bare minimum and giving back? lol
Since you live in Philadelphia, I can see why you feel so strongly about this now

not with that attitude
how can this be remedied
abolish private schools
education should be socialized and not based on income level or race to determine who and where you go to school
The funding will give underprivileged kids in grades K-12 the opportunity to attend prestigious private schools and various educational institutions across Philly.
Why not use the 300 million to assist in fixing a system and increase the standing of ALL underprivileged kids
It’s always the niggas that never gave back saying some s*** like this.
I don’t even like Jay Z but fair play to him on this
You dont know how working class folks spend they money dawg
Hopefully this includes colleges too but my city needs job development and incubators badly

Jay is spending 300 mill to send some kids from the hood to private schools they probably couldn’t normally attend.
You think these online dudes are even putting in a proportionate amount of money and time into their communities?
the people that use this “gotcha” the most usually dont do anything unsurprisingly
since they are a loser and sit around they project onto everyone else lol
does it say anywhere online that Roc Nation donated money?

Lot of grass roots organizations are made up of folks that work regular 9-5s so maybe.
I know 2-3 folks off this site alone that definitely be active community organizers for various causes that matter.
This idea of money being the cure to all the evils (when it’s just a bandaid) when private/charter schools have a history of being damn racist at times, plays right into the cycle of capitalism that ultimately in the end fails us all.

I hear you but at the end of the day it’s 300 million dollars towards the education of kids that need it.
Kids from the hood are gonna get to go to
private school and have a better shot at class mobility
