a classic, near flawless to me and the hate it received was very reactionary and expected due to the religious theme and the solid chunk of his fanbase formed of edgy teens

I refuse to believe someone can sit and listen to this and think “wow this is flawless” lmao
Like ye the album, it's a very good snapshot into his life at the time, in the future it will act as a time capsule.
There are obvious musical shortcomings but for the reasons listed above I don't rank it last in his discography.
Album had some really strong cuts its not his best work musically but, it’s one of his best eras aesthetically except those nasty double denim fits
I refuse to believe someone can sit and listen to this and think “wow this is flawless” lmao
thats bc they're trolling
Thoughts on the album in 2023?
This era was godly
His worst album and biggest musical disappointment of that year
Obviously his worst album but you don’t listen to other artists when you think this was the worst album of that year lmao

What else came out that year?
Edit: Oh yeah the big day
I refuse to believe someone can sit and listen to this and think “wow this is flawless” lmao
I said "near flawless" surely there are flaws, the iphone mic recording for one, the lack of lyrical depth is another.
But for an 11-song project aimed to encapsulate the feeling of returning to faith and the pressures/feelings that come with it I feel like it conveys its message pretty well and has a really wholesome feel-good vibe on it that makes it distinct from other ye releases from the same time period.
Through listening to it you can feel that this is an album he made while truly feeling happy and content with the direction he's taking. Can't say the same about DONDA for example.
sunday service and james turrell might be peak christian aesthetics.
that whole era was beautiful from start to finish, the Coachella, the sunday service, the listening parties. I wish he could've expanded more with the music like a deluxe or 3 more tracks or smth before switching to the God's Country/DONDA With Child era but hey that's ye and that's the case with every era that's what makes him special fr
Wonder why he didn't put LA Monster on that album rly
The producer who engineered the melody for LA Monster had pre-marital s***right before the album dropped, so Kanye removed the song as it was ingesting onto streaming services
