JID isn't really a "lyrical rapper". He's a Das EFX tongue twister rapper. Different things.

That’s kind of adjacent to “lyrical miracle”, lyrical miracle rappers aren’t lyrical

People conflate the two cause of Mac Lethal and Eminem and Tech N9ne and s***. Now. I don't think people were calling Do or Die and Bone Thugs and Twista lyrical miracle. That was more underground indie conscious rap s***.

The fact ppl equate niggas like JID as lyrical miracle rappers for the objectively task of…actually rhyming words that have more than one syllable speaks volumes about where we at in hip hop

  • Funny because he ruined that Ari Lennox song with that lyrical miracle s***

Lil Xan and Young Thug are outspoken about their disdain towards boring and bad music, yet actively make that kind of music

Niggas gotta try to put anything that deviates from the status quo into its own box.

And I’m saying as a nigga that grew up on s*** like Cannibal Ox, Micranots, Rubberroom Technology, MF DOOM, Juggaknots, etc.

JID is the farthest thing from a “lyrical miracle” rapper. He just dares to use lyrics in a time niggas dont really care bout em so “omg lyrical miracle”

Yeah I feel like he has dope wordplay and flows but a lyrical miracle to me is like Black Thought or Royce

Persona wise (not necessarily musically but a lot of niggas aren’t musically far off) why the f*** does everyone wanna be Boston Richey or Veeze or whoever

Nobody wants to be perceived as someone who truly cares

And when the hip hop zeitgeist switches back to what it used to be in the 2000’s where being a hip hop head added to your appeal and prestige niggas gonna switch back lol

    Niggas are #weird

Isaiah Rashad had similar sentiments in his latest video with Genius when he broke down Heavenly Father he said he hates when rappers rap about rapping which is funny to me because I feel like on Cilvia Demo that is sprinkled throughout his verses and he was on more of that rappity rap tip but then on TST & THIB he developed his own style further where he is lyrical but it's complex and a bit more melodic and not so forward

People get confused between wordplay and lyricism I think especially when a rapper raps fast.

That being said I love JID and have been a huge fan since The Never Story but someone who gets praised as a lyricist just because he raps fast is Logic and I f***ing hate Logic he is one of the most over hyped MC's ever in my opinion

There is a stigma growing of someone who cares about the art being considered desperate, weird, and uncool sadly.

Hopefully, we'll have that one artist that shakes s*** up and landscape starts to act like they give a f*** again

  • Like bro it’s ok to care about lyrics lmao

I think the thing with Zay is he pulls from his own life experiences and his own interpretations of things but doesn't necessarily give us an explanation if that makes sense? I know it sounds like I'm giving him an out but that's how I read his lyrics is that it's s*** he is familiar with in his own life but we don't have the insight into what he is talking about

  • I’ve never gotten so mad on instagram than when one of those c***ran hip hop pages reposted that kenny mason song and like 5 comments in a row was like “why this nigga tryna be kendrick lamar”

BRO THE AUDIENCE IS SO DUMB BRO.

People won’t believe me, but whatever - Andre 3000’s favorite rapper is Future. He doesn’t like listening to what he calls “flowery” rap either - he likes stuff that doesn’t scare the hoes. 😭
