Didn’t that come out first?
Yeah..but all the recent awards nominations like the Critics Choice Award and Golden Globes snubbing it for a Best Pic nomination with movies like Trial of Chicago 7 or s*** like News of the World in its place.
I dunno...I'm just surprised at all the love The Trial of Chicago 7 has gotten, tbh.
One of my only gripes is how cartoony Daniel sounded sometimes. That nigga sounded crazy lmaoooo. Fred sounded like a smoove playa. Daniel at times sounded crazy. But some parts of his speech he got down pact. Other....Idk bout that
Movie reminded of that Jay Z line "I arrived on the day Fred Hampton died, Real niggas just multiply" and then I remember his birthday really is Dec, 4, 1969
Kaluuya had me reciting "I am a revolutionary" like he was my damn pastor.
For real I started chanting it to
The wildest thing about these type of movies to me is how young these brothers really were. Like Malcolm and Martin were only in their 30s when they died and they did so much. Fred Hampton was f***ing 21 and started a movement so strong that the Feds wanted him dead. Makes you think what the f*** am I doing really?

Get ready to hate him

He did a great job. Said he needed to go to therapy after doing the role.
Put some respect on his name. That’s CHAIRMAN Fred Hampton. Make no effort to delegitimize his name or the efforts of the party by not respecting the titles these men and women carried. My overall impression post viewing I’m finding hard to articulate because of the overwhelming sadness I feel for chairman Fred, his family, the party, and our community in general. They killed all our heroes bro. One by one. I hate the PTSD I get from watching films like this. Probably why I normally avoid most of them but this felt like required viewing considering the subject as well as the people involved creatively. Chairman Fred truly was the final nail in the coffin in regards to our mainstream fight against the racist, capitalist, hierarchy. We haven’t been truly shown the way since and instead, our messiahs have become caricatures of the worst parts of ourselves and our plight p*** to be processed, microwaved, and consumed online trending just behind Celebrity divorce rumors and the sudden passing of screech

Encourage everyone to watch the extra interview with Lakeith, The Lucas Bros, and Lil Rel. Really great insight into the creation of the film
Tracy from atlanta is in this
Makes me wanna see it more is he serious in it? So annoyed tho I can’t find on streaming sites and it’s not loading on my Hulu I got hbo with 😖
If I’m lakeith I’m being petty as f*** after this like “if it ain’t a roll like killmonger don’t ever put me in no lame ass villain roll again because y’all know imma have to play that s*** to the best of my advantage”
Yeah but you just made a false equivalency using a real person vs a comic book character.
And I believe there's validity in wanting someone of the same ethnic group to play a fictional person whose character is displaying things you experience on a day to day, as well.
This isn't even an "American" debate. Nigerians were mad Lupita is playing one in the Americanah miniseries. Somalis are critiquing the fact Aja Naomi King is playing Ifrah Ahmed, and I think it's all valid.
I think it's a stupid argument. The job is to act. Not to be yourself. The roles should go to the best actor for the job, not to somebody just because they are from the same area

Daniel's performance is louder and because of that grabs your attention more but Lakeith went to some depths for that role man...seemed so conflicted at times but at other times just downright sinister and selfish as f***...in the end I found the character despicable and just wanted him to scream "you're a f***ing monster" at the fed guy but honestly they were both scum...if there is a hell I hope Hoover is slowly cookin in that motherfucker
Lakeith in the interview talks about how when he first read the script he assumed he was playing chairman Fred but when Shaka informed him he was actually thinking of him playing the role of William there was this long pause lmfao he was apprehensive about it because he hated the guy and talks about some of the struggles he faced on set having to play this character whose actions were constantly conflicting with his own sense of justice and morality. Ultimately, that real conflict of performance is what we got to see play out on screen. It’s what made this role so brilliant and him the perfect choice for it
