I like that Yuji isn’t a heavy hitter, because his character is more focused on his role. He literally just learned about Jujutsu and has no technique, and was shoved into all of this so the way he is being developed is great. You can see the payoff about to come soon.

And all the new characters are vastly different. Kashimo isn’t Higuruma. And they are side characters. And the arc was a battle royale. It’s the wrong expectation to go in hoping for them to have development especially since the arc just ended (you can see they are getting a bit of development now if you continue reading)

Bro Leorio and kurapika were gone the whole chimera ant arc, when they could’ve been there. If we didn’t let the story grow naturally and made the same complaints for it during that arc like “where is the other two MCs?” Or “this is too complex and why should I care for Kite when he died so quickly?” Then it would be dumb.

I'd like to direct it at oda but he's so fkn good at working in multi linear and multi-temporal plots.. even that antler/deer mf (yes I'm still early and not close to caught up, slugging thru Skypiea) has such a fire backstory. Oda just gets lost in his own sauce thinks he's the Tolkien of manga like dog I don't need all this minutia and granular detail it's not LOTR lol

I respect HxH for being an originator in manga and making many tropes and storylines that even Kishimoto himself copied but it's basically the same how I feel about MHA like MHA just does a lot of tropes and things from other anime's better than stories like Naruto did (deku is literally rock Lee) and just cuz I enjoy MHA so much I don't think it's necessarily better than Naruto but it def explains some things better but then if there's one bad szn it's "ughhh MHA is trash Naruto would never" just like ppl complaining about ughh JJK trash HxH would never lol like HxH has so many overused and boring explanations that also don't make sense lol

I thought JJK s1 was okay. It was decent, but at the time, I thought people were overhyping it. Then I saw JJK:0, and I really enjoyed it. The S2 Hidden Inventory arc was really fantastic. Those five episodes were so well utilized.

In the last few weeks, I caught up with the manga. I feel like the culling game arc is overhated. Sure, there's some trivial stuff mixed in there, but there's SO much to like about it.

Cursed energy is great, but HxH's nen is still the best power system imo.

It’s a lil dense I do my best to understand what I can and I frequent the jujutsushi sub which kinda helps break some of it down as best they can but at the end of the day If I don’t fully understand it I don’t knock it or let it take from my enjoyment

Even though Naruto is my favorite manga OAT since I grew up on it, I see what you are saying lol I know for sure of its inspiration from HXH and people attempted to discredit it earlier on when they saw the similarities like scarlet eyes and hunter exams, rather than understanding Kishimoto saw Togashi as a teacher who inspired him. I never read MHA but I know how anime fans are and believe it. Some of these authors are seasoned and know what they are doing, we just like hating on s*** lol And what you said is exactly my point. Absolutely there is 100% a nostalgia fantasy where ppl just remember their feels and not the facts. I grew up thinking hunter was dumb cuz THEY copied Kishimoto, then shippuden came out and I realized this dude has story flaws when he's gotta be original and not base it on other manga or Japanese folklore (see Sanin) it's not as good. BUT I never go and say "yeah actually I like hunter better" cuz then Kishimoto will make a story like itachis. People need to give artists TIME to work breathe and make good fkn stories because otherwise it's "well xyz manga from 123 years ago didn't do that!" Lol

The glaring big issues I had with Naruto was how he sidelined most of konoha 11 when we got to Shippuden (and I suppose when you title your work after the mc to say this is the story of Naruto, you tend to do that), Sakura being actually a terrible unlikable character, and the war arc which only had some exciting parts but was a slog fest, not to mention Kaguya coming outta nowhere. Everything else to me stands the test of time and my appreciation grows, but the cool thing is I can see its flaws without bias now. Definitely nostalgia but for the characters Kishimoto actually did invest in, they were indisputably amazing like Itachi. You got to give it to Kishimoto and other authors that, despite the flaws they could end their series without ruining them. Naruto to me always my favorite OAT. JJK is my current favorite, but I’m not as invested in the characters (they are still all great)

And as you said give artists the TIME, because JJK has build up arcs, which lead to so many things later. I was wondering if Gege could keep it up after Shibuya and I don’t see little if any quality diminishing constantly. Just the fandom or haters throwing hot takes. There’s definitely flaws and some poor execution but the upsides of there being great callbacks, foreshadowing, and building on the battle system makes it top tier. Also it is so silly when people get upset about 19 pages which are like 1/3 of an episode lol like every chapter isn’t going to be the same lore dumping, if you tell me there is a manga out there with no boring weeks you’re lying. People don’t know how to give good faith to authors to believe they know wtf they are doing. Let them cook lol
