suicides left and right. Also, Reiko and Watanabe going at it at the end grossed me out for some reason Lmao
yeah that part was completely unnecessary for me
I disliked this book so much. Are his other books better? I felt like this one was pretty much just about women and them as s***objects
defo give murakami another try
out of what i've read from him, his other books don't really objectify women in that way. but there are a lot of sexytimes tho
people seem to like the wind-up bird chronicles. not my personal fave, but give it a go!
i'd recommend the rat trilogy (Hear the Wind Sing/Pinball -> Wild Sheep Chase -> Dance Dance Dance). you don't really have to read them in order, but Wild Sheep Chase is the most popular of the 3 i'm p sure
Im close to actually finishing a book in I don't knkw how many years. I've been buying a couple books each pay so I'm starting to get a nice collection.
I have no idea what book to start next though

thank you will look into that :)
same author who wrote Under the Skin, which I liked a lot. this novel is about a missionary in the near future who is sent to a distant planet to live on a colony and preach Christianity to aliens. could've used a bit more world building and the first half was pretty slow but the second half was captivating and I like Faber's writing. Amazon filmed a pilot of this book called Oasis in 2017 which got good reviews but for some reason was never picked up. this is a unique and engaging sci fi book though, would definitely recommend
7.5/10
I feel like the book could've been trimmed down a bit but definitely worth checking out for anyone who's been interested with the 27 club at one point in their life
Just finished American Psycho.
Can’t even imagine the headspace you have to be in to write something like it.
Second Murakami book I’ve read
Amazing though
Maybe the most ‘David Lynch’ piece of media I’ve ever experienced outside of Lynch’s work
It wouldn’t adapt well to film but damn I’d love to see Lynch try

Bro I just finished reading Kafka on the shore, murakami aeshteic and prose was incredible I still don't know how to feel about the book. I have hard boiled wonderland queued up next should I do this book instead.

I haven’t read Kafka but I’ve heard this book is extremely similar so yea I’d recommend it
Very very surreal dream esque but conveys such a strong mood w the writing that it being confusing doesn’t really matter it’s more about the experience than the explanation

He’s an incredible writer who is absolutely awful at writing women

Kafka was a f***ing journey both of the protagonists narratives had such a weird but enthralling style to them.

It’s definitely gonna be the next Murakami one I do
Gotta read a couple books not by him first though it’s mentally draining (in a good way)

Same with Kafka i'm still trying to piece together everything that happened in the novel but the cohesive experience was unlike any other novel I've read.

WUBC is definitely Lynchian, would love to see him take a crack at it.
if you liked this one I'd say go for 1Q84 next. my favorite Murakami book, with WUBC coming a close second

Still debating what my next Murakami novel should be. Just scooped hard boiled but 1Q84 looks super intriguing

1Q84 is his magnum opus imo.
I gotta look at his novels again tho because they all kind of blend together and I get them mixed up. think I read around half of his work like five years ago, not sure if that includes Hard Boiled or not
also really enjoyed his latest novel, Killing Commendatore
I pretend that ending didn’t happen
S*** came outta left field AF
Is it always like this with Murakami? adding some tid bits like this

He’s weird about women for sure
I haven’t read enough of his stuff to know though
Wind up bird was very weird but in a natural organic way
He’s an incredible writer who is absolutely awful at writing women
yeah seems that way. Don't know if I'll give him another shot. We'll see
Crazy s***. Still relevant 190 years later
