Taking a break before book 4 with a couple of popcorn thriller novels
Finished dune today, so damn good maannnnnn I can't wait for the movie
Gonna start book two now

novel from a Japanese author about an aging woman and how she comes to grips with her femininity and desire to have children. it was good, though I probably would have liked it more if I was an aging woman with a desire to have children. probably just read it because of a recommendation and Murakami's stamp of approval, but their styles weren't similar at all and I wouldn't call this novel breathtaking.
6/10

First novel I've read by Camus. thought it was good and he did a great job of capturing the main character's inner monologue and personality. don't quite get the hype or why it's considered a classic, but it was good. nice, short novel though I might have enjoyed it more if it were a hundred pages longer
8/10
la peste is his best imo, or la chute
I mean I liked it, but was expecting more based on the hype. I think it might fall into the category of books that were written many years ago that were groundbreaking or presented a new perspective for the times. if it came out this year not sure it would be so well received but maybe I'm missing something. if anybody is a big Camus fan feel free to describe what makes The Stranger so special
u gotta read it when ur 17 bro

Great read if you’re interested in how far Americas imperialistic reach goes and what tactics theyve used over the decades
Some books I finished recently
A Promised Land by Barack Obama
Unnecessarily long and often had very little meaning to it. It only covered his life through to the Bin Laden raid. There’s some interesting stuff and it’s still hard for me to truly understand him and his real politics. It helped me to understand the reasoning behind some of the decisions he made that I disagreed with. Overall a decent enough read and I’ll read the next volume when it releases
World War Z by Max Brooks
I really like the writing style here. Succinct, easy to read and interesting. Enjoyed it a lot. Someone should turn it into an anthology TV series.
Coming through Slaughter by Michael Ondaatje
Not an easy read. Confusing, violent and horrific at times. The prose is unbelievably beautiful. It just felt like a level too much for me to read and enjoy both structurally and content wise. I understand the praise it gets though it’s clearly a masterpiece.
Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut
Not what I was expecting but a welcome surprise. It’s like the opposite of the Ondaatje book. Horrific material but presented in such a unique worldview. Both have a similar structure to them but Slaughterhouse 5 is so matter of fact and light in terms of prose that it’s on the reader to examine and find the meaning. Coming through Slaughter is the opposite the prose is so dense and stunning that the meaning is almost overwhelming
Been reading on a Kindle and it’s crazy how much more I’m reading cause of it. Got a secondhand one cause f*** amazon and it cost me like $50 I’d definitely recommend

Gonna read this next I actually already had it downloaded and lined up I’ll let you know what I think
Confessions of an Economic Hitman: interesting read and reaffirmed a lot of what I assumed to be true. Felt a little sensationalized at times though and I wasn’t a huge fan of his writing style
D: A Tale of Two Worlds by Michel Faber

usually wouldn't read a young adult novel but I recently read The Book of Strange New Things by Faber and enjoyed it a lot so thought I'd give this new one a shot. fun concept (all the letters "d" go missing and a girl has to get to the bottom of it) but nothing too memorable. would make a great movie
6/10
The Stranger by Albert Camus
Short but absolutely stunning. The way the whole book builds to almost a crescendo while remaining completely detached is just incredible. Definitely recommend
Finally finished half of a yellow sun. up there with augustus and brothers Karamazov with as my favs oat.
Possibly the heaviest, most soul crushing book ive ever read. Highly recommend
Tove Ditlevsen - Childhood
Gives an amazing, sometimes breathtaking insight in the life of growing up in poverty in Denmark. The prose from Ditlevsen is amazing, she makes you want to keep reading.
Childhood is the first book of the Copenhagen Trilogy. The trilogy consist of Childhood, Youth and Dependency. Definitely going to buy the other 2 books as well.

Omon Ra by Victor Pelevin

quick read about an aspiring astronaut in the Soviet Union being sent to the moon. felt like the characters could have been flushed out a bit more but it was well written and a good representation of blind nationalism.
7/10
Reading a people's history of the united states by Howard Zinn rn. Im at the 1950 timeline and I gotta say its a pure classic.
Never knew American politics were so f***ed up
9/10
Pastoralia by George Saunders

shout out to the couple of people on here that recommended this book. it was a really fun read. my favorites were Pastoralia, Sea Oak, and The Falls, but all the stories were entertaining. would be cool to see these made into TV show episodes. gonna add Saunders' Civilwarland and Lincoln in the Bardo to my list as I heard those were good too.
