Yea cube on that weirdo time.
I'm all for a good song but ghostwriting drops you down on my list.
And they only say that cuz they're cousins and their voices are similar sometimes.
The truth is their favs had ghostwriters so they try to act like ghostwriting is so tempting no one can resist it or it's impossible to be a successful rapper without it.
Lmao facts a lot of projecting going on in this very thread
Wonder why Cube hired a ghostwriter in the mid 2000's, maybe he got lazy or something
Mid 2000s was lowkey when he switched to that generic “west coast gangsta” image IMO idk how to properly articulate it but bro started leaning hard into stereotypes around that era

Yeah fax
Idk I think writing your own s*** is important. But I care a lot about authenticity personally
With Cube it was way past his prime so not as big of a deal
I feel like as long as you have most of your s*** written by yourself - it's aight
it's not like Drake can't write his raps lol, and it's not like Cube can't write his raps so it's not a big deal for me
Lupe wrote the Black Album tho right?
Lol you really think Lupe ghostwrote an entire album for Jay? Lol
Think bri
On some real s***, I'm sure quite a few rappers used some lines every now and again but it's not the same as having the majority of verses written for them.
Plus, Cube himself wrote for Eazy E and Dre.
I also think having hooks written for you like Game with 50 doesn't count either.

True. Go To Church is a personal classic for me though.

yeah having ghostwriters also doesn't necessarily mean that dude is having like a sheet with full song lyrics presented to him lmao
it might be just few lines/hook/general ideas etc

But when it's like Violent Crimes by Ye where he didn't write the entire song s*** is basura

Word, people being obtuse as hell lmao comparing somebody using lines or something to mfs having whole reference tracks on how to flow and s***
I don't really care about ghostwriting tbh I think music being a collaborative process is fun and cool

yeah also a song with personal lyrics that s*** sucks
if any of yall ever got around editing for basically any published text you'd know that it is never-ever a one-man job. if youre a writer and you dont have an editor then people look at you funny. every newspaper has an editor/proofreader. you'll never write a good one on your own these days, and most writers (including goats) from a few hundred years ago definitely could've used some editing for their works. it varies for hip-hop but Cube mentions songwriting and all of the above applies just the same
that said, if you do have people giving you stuff then a) credit them properly b) dont run around talking about how you wrote all the bars. I think thats what people got a problem with

They make that weird comparison because their favorite rappers used ghostwriters and they’re trying to downplay it by saying “everyone gets help”

Writing music isnt like writing literature or editing pieces of writing.
And you give credit to the editors when they have done their work
This
No one writes their lyrics 100% by themselves no matter if they’re a Kanye or a Kendrick or a Pac or biggie or a Hov
I do
It's simple.
Tier 1- rappers who write their own s***
Tier 2- rappers who have had writers and credited them
Tier 3- rappers who have ghostwriters and pretend that they're writing all their material
And don't give me writing hooks or getting a line from your man's
Weird but Cube did write a lot of great raps himself regardless
Fax. It seems like he just wanted to help upcoming artists by letting them write for him. Music is about collaboration.

This is cap. Kendrick wrote 100 percent of his contributions on TPAB and he also wrote for snoop, some hooks for ana wise etc.
What are you saying?
Hov wrote all of his rqps on 4:44.
So did Lupe on his albums.
