This is a false equivalence. It was released as a single beforehand and was already regarded as the first single off Views even before One Dance dropped. Same thing with how God's Plan/Nice for What were released as singles before Scorpion dropped and Drake didn't wait till the second week to add it to the album like Kendrick is doing now.

If you wanna use this as a point then every album in history that's ever had a single/singles released beforehand fits this category and that's just wrong.

This is a straight up lie. Drake admitted in the More Life interview that Hotline Bling was a throwaway track. The first single for Views was Summer 16 which flopped so he removed it.

never thought Kendrick would go out like this

Niggas tryna convince me that the single that dropped a year ahead of the album and then got tacked on as a bonus track was the lead single and start off the albums rollout.

That’s why this stan wars s*** is straight jokes to me

Using this to big up Drake who dropped Hotline Bling in summer 2015 and then tacked it on as a bonus track for a summer 2016 release for more streams is insane mental gymnastics but folks gotta keep
these stan wars going somehow I guess

wasn’t hotline bling a bonus from the jump?

This would be a better gotcha if drake flopped then tacked it on in desperation.

Let’s be real, Kenny threw it on bc his third week is gonna be blown out by Future’s fifth (sixth?)

I find it totally fine if you dont like it just skip the last song Lol
But this proves Kendrick cares about sales more than some ppl want to accept

When Views dropped mfs literally called it as a ploy to generate streams. Leading up to the albums release mfs was looking at One Dance, Pop Style and Controlla as the singles for that album wasn’t nobody thinking about Hotline Bling in 2015 as the lead single. Especially since he went and did the collab with Future album right after that, the mental gymnastics here is crazy.
    Pointing Spider-Man meme behavior

    Still a dumb point.

Callaíta, off Bad Bunny's latest album, was released as a single back in May 2019. It gained over a billion streams and got added to an album he dropped 3 years later. Travis Scott released Butterfly Effect in May 2017 and added it to Astroworld, which dropped in August 2018. The Weeknd released Earned It as a single in December 2014 as part of a movie soundtrack but added it to his solo album that dropped in August 2015. In October 2018, Post Malone released Sunflower as part of a movie soundtrack and added it to his album in December 2019. I could go on and on. Hotline Bling was a solo track Drake dropped that became a hit. Why wouldn't he add it to an album he had coming out soon after that? That's like thinking Cardi B won't be adding WAP & Up to her next album (whenever it drops) when those are both #1 smash hits.

Drake could have easily added What's Next, Wants and Needs and Lemon Pepper Freestyle to CLB when it dropped but he didn't.

The difference is Kendrick/people at his label are tacking this to his album in his third week because they're seeing that the album isn't doing too well.

Summer Sixteen was never the lead single to Views, where did you get that? And that song peaked at #6. What are you talking about?

Drake said “this is the first single from views from the 6” and then played Summer 16 6x in a row on OVO sound radio. I was there.
