Plus, Wayne is STILL murdering features 3 decades in today.

And he's still in popular demand for features despite not even f***ing with modern rap like that by his own admission.

Even on God Did, his verse was very potent like Jay's. Jay's was just longer and more memorable.

I love Kendrick and he's a much better artist/musician but I feel people who downplay Wayne here are looking at s*** from a Billboard/Pitchfork/Non Rap POV and not solely a rap POV.

I can understand ranking Kendrick over Wayne based on some criteria but niggas acting like it's unusual to still rank Wayne higher are straight delusional.

Also, Wayne's hip hop songs are also better than people give him credit for.

Kendrick doesn't have too many tracks as smooth as this.

That Death Wish feature might be Wayne’s most underrated.

Even at his peak, his feature run from those years was nowhere as dominant or revered as Kendrick's feature run in 2013

    Bro,...what?

Wayne was extremely dominant from 2006-2012 when it came to features.

Kendrick's 2013 is like not even in the same stratosphere lol.

Hell, Wayne was featured on Loyal the same year(or just after the year) and that was bigger than any 2013 Kendrick feature.

Wayne having a better collaborative exposure, more influence, a bigger discog, bigger peak numbers, and a successful label are his biggest accolades in this

Kendrick is a better writer, better artist, better discog, more critical acclaim, and more recognized.

You can say you think Kendrick is a better rapper but that’s also different from career. Wayne’s spanned decades, with the numbers, milli first week, the quality, the chokehold on the game in 07-08, and gave us a successful label that birthed two of the most successful rappers of all time. That is just a better career.

If we're keeping it 100, Kendrick isn't even on Drake or J Cole's level when it comes to features.

But there's enough beef threads and J Cole hate threads on here so I'm not going to belabor that.

Not yet. Kendrick needs a big feature run imo and to take baby keem or another artist under his wing.

He already had his big feature run! That Maroon 5 - Imagine Dragons - Taylor Swift feature run went crazy!

I think more people need to appreciate Kendrick's longevity and consistency. 15 years into his career, he's hitting another commercial peak. 15 years after Wayne's debut, he was putting out some of the worst music of his career. He burned out really fast.

It seems increasingly likely that Kendrick will be more esteemed than Wayne over time rather than the other way around, based on the direction their careers have gone. Not all of that is Wayne's fault, by the way.

2013 kendrick had a few really good verses (collard greens, forbidden fruit, nosetalgia) and control which was huge but wayne went so crazy on features that people thought they were wayne songs. even 2 chainz said duffle bag boy did more harm than good because it didn't do anything to raise his profile it just made wayne look better

kendrick for sure isn't on drake's level for features. kendrick is one of the GOATs but for features there's a lot of guys ahead of him and kendrick has had some terrible features idk if kendrick had a feature run like cole did 2021-2022 tbh

Again, it depends on the audience.

The Billboard/Pitchfork/Grammy/Music Blog audience has always favored Kendrick over Wayne.

And he's done enough things as an elite artist to win them over compared to Wayne.

In the hip hop world, though, it's more debatable because mixtapes hold tons of weight in hip hop and Wayne has one of the best mixtape catalogs.

Also, while Wayne has fallen from grace musically, he's actually stepped up his game as a technical rapper.

That's why Wayne is still putting rappers in the body bag on tracks even to this day.

It's actually interesting to witness because Wayne sounds elite af as a rapper today even compared to some of his prime years despite the musical decline.

But I wouldn't fault anyone for ranking one over the other. Kendrick's done more than enough to earn the spot even if I still favor Wayne.

And yes thats how I look at it too!

I mean Wayne also freestyling everything is crazy too. I think he is more skilled as a rapper. Or at least his abilities impress me more personally.

For sure! And I do respect that people make it at different ages and don’t really view someone doing something younger as much more impressive. It’s like a component for sure, but just not as important as others to me or as important other people sometimes view it. What matters to me is just how excellent your peak work is.

BUT when people are like kendrick never made something as awful as rebirth, like I mean Wayne really was making hits as a kid and Kendrick’s early mixtapes are not enjoyable at all for me and he was an adult making those, so kendrick has def put out a lot bad “albums” like Wayne has! And Wayne has just made so so much more music than kendrick, so of course there’s a higher likelihood of bad songs and stuff. You’re completely right Wayne put in more work than anybody. If kendrick ever catches up to the breath of work (which he might not, because hes so concise with his albums and started much older) Im sure he would have more stinkers too.

He’s just been very consistent overly dedicated and later

  • Nov 29, 2024

up in the air but ngl id argue kendrick gets a slight edge for not falling into any of the missteps waynes done in his career

  • Nov 29, 2024

Theres just something effortless about Wayne i am so inspired and impressed by. Like im just going to smoke weed, drink lean, skate and freestyle this s*** off the dome and make songs better than 99% of people could ever dream of. It’s just mind blowing to me.

Kendrick never has and never will have a prime wayne period
He’s a great rapper with plenty of charisma but he will never have an ounce of the presence that wayne had during that time. You cant fake that confidence
