Born to Die is one of the most influential pop albums of the century. Lorde was listening to Born to Die heavily and was inspired by Lana when she wrote Royals, the biggest hit of her career.

Sonically, Lorde was definitely inspired by Lana. Now aesthetically? No. But then again, I wouldn't say an artist like Billie Eilish is inspired by Lana aesthetically but the sonic influence is there and she's admitted as such several times.

He has multiple albums that debuted with well over 100k in his prime and now they're acting like he has always been a 25k-tier artist. I don't know what else he could have done to rollout his album any better than he did.

20 songs? Check.
Multiple catchy singles? Check.
Multiple variants across several physical formats? Check.

It simply didn't translate enough for people. This is what happened to Kendrick when he took 5 years off and returned with MMATBS. Regardless of what niggas say, no one cares about rap albums that focus on healing, mental health and growth as a man. It simply doesn't translate to exciting music. That's why it's so disingenuous seeing people complain about Drake not making "mature music". They don't care about anyone who does that and there's years of examples to prove that.

For Big Sean, I'll say that I'm glad he made an album filled with songs that reflect where he is right now in his life. I like the album. And as long as he made the album he wished to make, that's a W for him. He can always double back with more music if he wants and see how that works out.

You were spitting until you brought up Mr. Morale. That album moved 300K first week and was followed by the highest grossing rap tour of all time (at the time).

That album was a success. Better Me Than You was just a flop

Mr. Morale is currently pulling in more streams daily than both Her Loss and Honestly, Nevermind, two albums that dropped the same year as Mr. Morale.

So if Mr. Morale failed, then so did those two albums

Mr. Morale was only Kendrick’s fifth studio album and the Morale tour was only his 3rd arena tour, he had not transitioned into legacy act by that point yet (and he still isn’t)

He dropped one album that everybody hated and had to cancel the entire tour supporting it because tickets were not selling.

If new albums had no impact on new tours, then people would’ve still showed up to hear the first three mixtapes
