    Youtube and Amazon

Yeah, I looked into it and it's mostly Pandora and Amazon.

Couldn't find exact numbers, but he has the highest monthly listener count on Pandora (which is on-demand and programmed streams).

Imagine going 8x Platinum in 5 months and then taking another 15 months to reach 11x Platinum

Definition of peak fast, crash hard

You do realize they dint certify these automatically right?

  • Thizzer

You do realize they dint certify these automatically right?

Obviously not, but if it was certified 8x Platinum in June 2018 and 11x Platinum in September 2019, then that means in the 15 month span from June 2018 to September 2019, the song only sold an additional 3M units

It took Not Like Us 9 months to sell 8m units
It took God's Plan 5 months to sell 8m units

    What happened

Not Like Us only spent 3 weeks at #1

Drake has 5 songs that have spent +8 weeks at #1

Hotline Bling didn't even reach #1, so who gives a s***

Just cherry picking stats to make a point hardly anyone agrees with

Why do you think that it didn't go #1

People who were there know that it was the most popular song in nearly the entire world but the way the Hot 100 chart was calculated was a bit different back then. Won't give you more hints though, you can try to figure out the rest

I don't want to agree with people who don't understand what the facts are. I'd rather be correct and alone in my opinion than a sheep who's wrong

  • If we talking billboard, look at the total points accumulated and see where does NLU stack up

The Hills went Diamond in 2019

Hotline Bling went Diamond in 2022

But yeah sure, it was definitely the most popular song in nearly the entire world

I have no interest in wasting my time talking about this with someone who didn't experience the moment. You posting sales is proof that you just don't quite get it. Not your fault that you weren't there, but just don't try to add yourself into a debate that you aren't qualified to have.

People who were there when it popped off know how big it was.

I literally was there. I’m not denying it was big.

But saying it was outright the biggest song in the world that year is a straight up lie.

2015 had NUMEROUS songs that were worldwide smashes.

The Hills, Can’t Feel My Face, Where Are U Now, See You Again, Trap Queen, etc.

When the numbers disagree with your narrative, you resort to personal anecdotes.

But when someone else brings up personal anecdotes, you invalidate them and say numbers are the truth.

    Make up your mind

You talking about diamond songs and American certifications reading this s*** off the internet and acting like you were here to experience any of it.

Show me where I said it was the ''outright biggest song in the world THAT YEAR''

You do realize the Hot 100 happen every week right? The talk was about it not going #1. You only need to be the most popular song in the country for 1 week to get the #1.

This is why no one takes you seriously Fader. I've tried to warn you multiple times about you posting incorrect stuff, lies and flip-flopping but you never learn

    That was never the case.

It was HUGE, but 2015 had numerous songs that were doing damage every single week. Hotline Bling was never the outright biggest song in the world at any point in 2015.
This is why no one takes you seriously. Because you are a white European trying to tell black Americans what our culture was like ten years ago that you learned about in a book

NLU is more impactful and bigger than both. I see it daily as part of American Pop culture till this day. I turned on the Hawks game last week and the mascot was dancing to it. S*** was performed at the biggest event. S*** became part of discussion on sports talk shows and news here. Why we even arguing any of this s*** with someone who has no idea of how s*** is here.

    This is settled.

No one has said Hotline Bling was bigger than NLU. Whatever you just posted has NOTHING to do with what was being discussed lmao.

I gave you this response but I really shouldn't waste my time responding to low IQ posters.

Exactly. My point is that the stat you threw out is somewhat contextual and dependent on factors not always related to the popularity of the song itself and does not always correlate with chart stability. #1 sounds great, but we all know that not all #1s are created equal.

Staying in the top 10 for 28 weeks, however, has literally never happened for a rap song. That level of sustained popularity is unheard of and to try and disregard that accomplishment by saying it was only #1 for 3 weeks (something it took the better part of a decade for Drake to accomplish, by the way) is disingenuous and beneath you.

Not all #1s are indeed equal. Being #1 for 11 weeks is far more impressive than being #1 for 3 weeks but manage to cling onto the top 10 for some more weeks.

We are talking about the undisputed most popular song in the country for 11 weeks vs being one of the most popular songs.

But I am a fan of adding context to numbers. And adding context to NLU is to realize why it took off to begin with. An assist.

Context is important. That's the entire purpose of this thread. Unfortunately many users - who all support the same guy - have ruined this thread with their no-knowledge having posts about charts where they can't add context to numbers so the level has fallen off a cliff. Always adding context to numbers can be quite tiring when idiots come in and try to stir up a hornet's nest by debating like idiots. You get tired so you either just refuse to debate with them or stoop to their level.
