NWA, one of the most famous rap acts, are generally known for talking about the black experience in america / racism / policing etc in their raps ( F*** da police on of the biggest songs ever)

even before that, black artists across a multitude of genres sang/rapped about the black experience

Saying Kendrick started this "wave" is just plain stupid and shows you really haven't being paying attention to the genre (or black music) at all

mans quoting NWA and Nina Simone I'm talking about the modern era

before TPAB I feel like many black artists never really talked about their black identity before?

1978 comes before 2016 last time I checked

Man just take the L and move on

    Production carries the album heavily

tpab hate will never not be corny

  • Nov 22, 2020

i am talking about the mainstream music in the modern era I am obviously not talking about anything else. idk if people are intentionally missing the point but there was a clear shift when TPAB dropped. people who never really cared about that aspect of their identity became passionate about it

This was Rap-A-Lot at they're peak. They're production was A+ around this time.
