Yeah it was definitely divisive, but the overall reception skewed positive.

It’s just the weirdo Drake stans on here trying to pit two legends against each other for no reason whatsoever

Mr. Morale and Her Loss both got great receptions and deservedly so

They’ve been salty ever since Control for some reason. They’ve talked down on TPAB, DAMN & Mr. Morale. Truth be told all of those albums were successful in their own right. If Kendrick actually flops or fails, there won’t be any forced narratives. We will just know.

They definitely had beef from 2013 to 2015, but that was years ago and I imagined they’ve talked in private since. They are probably still competitive with each other, but Drake doesn’t feel the same way about Kendrick as he does, Pusha T for example.

You'll probably get mad at me for this but sidebar : in a way 4YEO is my favorite "Kendrick" album. Then come section80 and GKMC, then Damn. These beat any Eminem album. Everything else is debatable

Both of those Em albums are mostly trash with a couple solid tracks

I don't think MM&TBS is a bad album, its just not accessible and not what rap fans expected or wanted from Kendrick after waiting so long for him to drop

so he really doesn't need to do this

if anything I would compare Kendrick dropping again to Views & More Life
Views while not completely terrible was not what fans wanted at the time and Drake knowing that decided to quickly strike again with another album (originally ML was supposed to drop at the end of 2016 but got pushed back)

Kendrick never dares to go in his true direction he always wants to include a bop or two that are awkwardly misplaced and significantly weaker than the rest of the album, thematically (backstreet freestyle, king kunta, Humble, Count me Out...)

On 4YEO Cole dared. Resulting in what I've always wanted and expected from Kendrick, a cohesive beautiful album. Kendrick has the potential to drop something to the level of a Lupe or a Nas that single s*** is beneath him so why does he keep doing that? TDE? Fear of losing relevance?
