I think this convo about artists like Sexyy are interesting. Bc blaxploitation, originally, was a medium for black people to represent their strength and power through story. And for me, artists like her do a lot to spread joy.

Most pretentious thing said itt thus far

Ktt might have been right about the traptimism wave

your name is “Free Youngboy NBA” and you cant understand his point about Sexxy Redd?

What exactly does it leave into question

It’s such a complex issue that even if we understand where he’s probably coming from some things are up for debate

The biggest thing he left up to the listener to understand was the way he switches genders and pronouns constantly through the song but since he never acknowledges this it leaves questions

I think it would’ve been a better song if it focused more on that than the F word. He didn’t really have to say it a bunch of times to prove it’s bad. Like, that point isn’t even profound

He lowkey reduced the whole complex issue to a conversation about slurs. Which most people listening know are bad and didn’t need this type of revelation to realize it in 2022

I honestly didn’t really focus that much on that one line of the conclusion. You say it like that’s the actual concluding line but it’s not. It’s just part of his speech and I honestly don’t even interpret that line the same as you are

He didn’t say anything about his happiness in that line, you’re adding that

I took that line more as just realizing that religion isn’t always right and humanity and being kind to others is more important

This is the media literacy @edumist was talking about. You chose to ignore a crucial point of the song because you got lost in trying to paint it as savior s***.

And he doesn't have to say he chose his happiness it's implied by choosing his loved ones over religion.

    What are some drake misses

Personally, I've enjoyed every Drake project for the most part but I'd say his first real miss (for me, at least) is Scorpion (and that's mostly because Side B drags too much). I f*** with Views a lot but I still think it's the album with some of his weakest rapping in the 2010s. Oh and Room for Improvement is trash. Outside of that, I think with every other project he's dropped, a case can easily be made for them being a 7 or 7.5/10 effort.

and then they’ll turn around and call you “pretentious” or trot out the “lol you’re saying you need a certain IQ to understand his music” when it’s genuinely just niggas not understanding the f***ing song

which is why i just default to media literacy is in the toilet

    That’s hard.
I gotta go with (in no order):
Mother, i Sober (perfectly done beat and sung hook, with some of the most personal writing I think I’ve ever heard from him)
Worldwide Steppers (really good at capturing how I feel sometimes, as far as vibes and instrumentals go, good lyrics too)
Rich Spirit (insanely infectious hook, great verses, also really good at capturing a certain dread I feel a lot lately)
Mr. Morale (I love this beat so f***ing much, and Kendrick does not let me down with his performance on it)
Savior Interlude (more straightforward but still really really good verse, probably too 3 favorite verses on the album for me)
    What about you?

Well s***, those are probably the five best songs on there, and some of his career Highs

    For me it's

Father Time ( perfect song, no wasted moment, amazing sampha feature, really the first song that I ever heard whose audacity I questioned, cause it hit sooo deep

Rich Spirit for sure, a groove, I love the flows

Mirror, another perfect song, it's imperfect too cause I don't like the feeling that he's giving up but I get it, you gotta choose your battle and peace in life

UIG, I could spew all day no diddler

And finally Silent Hill, I like the depression that lurks throughout the album, there's moments of sadness, in this song he's supposed to be rapping energetically like the kendrick we know but instead he's dragging along and the younger, still ignorant, parallel Yal picks up the slack and steals the show. genius

What do y'all think the theme of Kendrick's next album will be?

Personally, I hope he makes a DAMN. part 2. I need some slappers from him. At least 5-6 on the next album.

Do you think mr morale falls under a 7/7.5 objectively?

I’m mega biased because I’ve been obsessed with it since it dropped but even taking into account people who weren’t as taken by it musically or topically, I’d be interested to see if a consensus puts it below that score
