i even think her stoic, detached disgust at everything happening was a cool angle, its just
i wasn't sure by the end what she knew and what she didn't. she was very quiet with Earnest. i wasn't sure if she was forgiving & understanding, angry and methodical or legit didn't know the full extent of what he was doing
i think that is such a magical performance and for it not to really swoop into a conclusion or any sort of thematic moment was odd
but then again thats kinda cool and bold. most other filmmakers would've put a bow on it. still figuring out how i feel about it i guess
One gets the sense that they’re trying to achieve something nuanced
The still virtue of grace
Listening, hushed up in a storm
But not releasing that tension feels… dishonest
Mollie does not feel whole to me
One gets the sense that we’re not seeing everything
Huh? You think this is more accessible? Im not sure I agree. Some people left my theatre during the break and towards the end
Personally loved this but idk how casuals will respond to such a long runtime.
I dunno, maybe I’m not the best judge
But one of these movies is a cold procedural revolving around 1940s politics and security hearings
The other is the type of violent crime drama one might expect from Scorsese
Killers feels like it has enough pulp to carry people through, even with the runtime

I was thinking that it might've been that hospital, medicine, etc really just had her drained emotionally along that whole rollercoaster. Though I don't think that's really accurate, plenty of people still show emotion that are going through rough health periods.
Also wasn't really easy to tell how much she did or didn't know up to that point. I expected us to maybe get a scene of her asking what the hell is going on exactly, did she have suspicions that he was involved in bad things? She certainly held distrust of his uncle, but seemed to confide and trust in Ernest at multiple points.
I think we could assume how she felt since they said she divorced his ass and got remarried. Guess it's open to assumption to some degree, but logically I'd think she was pretty disappointed and hurt. Likely not wanting anything to do with a murderer. Wonder how the kids turned out tho.
It was such a strange decision
I just don’t understand the film’s decision to depict Mollie as so naive
Her relationship with white people… her trust in her husband… Where is that coming from?
It feels like a smoldering fire that never catches flame
At the outset I said oh boy I can’t wait for the movie to serve us up a delicious part for Lily Gladstone and then it just… never gives it to her
Yeah I feel like it didn't really explore this Native American family, having a mother that clearly hates white people. Yet somehow the kids all grow up to marry white men and essentially lose their wealth to them. They showed the white side of that racism, but it wasn't really present with Molly's family outside of her mother who was just being old and eventually dying. Blinded by love I guess? Kinda odd imo.

It might sound reductive, but it genuinely felt to me like she was d\*\*\*matized :clapdead:
I watched this last night. I’ll probably give it another shot, but my initial reaction is very similar to Oppenheimer. It’s good. There are aspects of greatness in this movie, but it doesn’t completely work for me. The ending felt out of place to say the least.
I hate to say it, but Brendan Frasier felt a little out of place in this
popped up in that court scene like the koolaid man

nah I agree. Bro was loud as s***

It’s like he’s still in The Whale mode
Watching tomorrow, know next to nothing about this
Based on a true story. Worth going into fully blind
It’s like he’s still in The Whale mode
That and also reminded me of Daredevils Kingpin

felt like seeing bronson in the irishman. like the f*** is this big dude doing right here
Yeah bit strange how little narrative Mollie had and the pacing was a bit odd to me
Maybe I’ll end up liking it more on a second watch but that won’t happen in a while

Pacing in the second half was great imo, first half dragged a bit
Was this the most “left field” Scorsese has been? I enjoyed this a lot
What do u mean by that?
