high and low my favorite
Came here to say this. I love everything I’ve seen by him but this is one of my favorite movies ever.
When Kurosawa moved into colour he did not come to play
In case anyone ITT didn't know, the man would PAINT his own storyboards
The paintings were needed because he was going blind when he made the film which insane given it's one of the most stunning films ever made. Those paintings are so hard
Kurosawa doesn't get enough credit. He's a director who established his own pacing, beauty and venerated his culture above all.
An amazing director who should be discussed amongst the modern Scorsese, Tarantino etc. Star Wars & Wes Anderson should run synonymous with Akira Kurosawa.
"Doesnt get enough credit"

"Star Wars and Wes Anderson should run synonymous with Akira Kurosawa" is equally funny

Guess I'm just surrounded amongst ppl who are more into box office films then the actual artists themselves.
"Doesnt get enough credit"
the most famous and lionized eastern filmmaker of all time is underrated
after growing up obsessed with Wu Tang and then getting more into cinema when i was a bit older made me do some research on the samurai/kung fu films RZA was sampling, which led me to reading about Kurosawa a little bit (didnt have internet or a library full of books on film yet) and saw the Criterion Kurosawa dvd set (had never heard of them) and said f***it and got my friend with an amazon account to order it for me
Seven Samurai didnt do it for me at all but Throne Of Blood was life changing (Lower Depths and Hidden Fortress also hit). First foreign films i had ever seen and after getting a few good cinema books and reading more about these Criterion guys i never looked back thanks rza.
Just watched “the quiet duel”
What an amazing movie
And to think I haven’t gotten into his most famous films
