Haven't watched a movie of his I didn't really enjoy, I know he supposedly has a few duds but he's an amazing director imo

Do The Right Thing is probably the best and most nuanced movie about race relations in USA

Great filmmaker. Haven't seen a bad film from him yet. I'm hoping BlacKkKlansman is better than things I've heard from friends, I've been procrastinating on that one and a few of his other bigger films for a while (Summer of Sam, Crooklyn, He Got Game, 25th Hour).

But I'm really excited to watch some others I haven't seen first, like Girl 6, She Hate Me, and Get on the Bus. I also want to see more of his documentary/concert work asap too.

do the right thing has to be one of the best american films ever made

  • iCarly Japan

Was kinda hoping this thread would do better. Same with the Cameron one from last week. The next couple of weeks i might try to chose less acclaimed but more divisive directors.

    Gotchu bro..

Klansman is one of his best works. He seems revitalized and had a great team around him. Thoroughly enjoyable film

  • Jul 8, 2021

legendary director but im not a big fan of his style at all. DO the right thing, da 5 bloods are fire tho

  • Jul 8, 2021

an all timer for do the right thing alone

he really carved out his spot as one of the greatest american directors imo, even with his handful of misses. which is whatever cause the dude just loves making movies

Under appreciated. He should be mentioned along with the likes of Scorsese n em.

  • The more I see of his non-Do The Right Thing films the more I realize he’s one of the GOATs to ever do the damn thing

  • Jul 8, 2021

Clockers and He Got Game alone are perfect pictures

He Got Game is up there with Malcolm X and Clockers imo, its crazy how his signature film isn’t even in his top 5 best works

That's often the case with legendary/important filmmakers in general tbh

My mentor once said that too: Spike should be in the same convo as Scorsese.

Even though Spike has always been one of my favorite directors & key influences, I never put him in that category... until that convo. Unsure why I never correlated Spike to be in the Scorsese tier, maybe it's just social programming but Spike Lee is truly an auteur of filmmaking.

I'd subconsciously place Wes Anderson and others above Spike, that whole conversation was a breakthrough
