You can tell by the interviews, he didn't want to make the film. That probably was a favor he did for an exect or the studios.
He’s great, he’s got some duds for sure but when he hits, he HITS like knock it out the park type s***.
Do The Right Thing is classic cinema and should be up there with the likes of all the other recognized classics, he made something THAT good and Malcolm X is his magnum opus and arguably just as good as Do The Right Thing.
He’s not just done good work
He’s done masterful work multiple times
his mid movies don’t take away from his masterpieces
U can try but nothing will take away from the greatness spike lee has done did black film
Film in general. Spike Lee has an interview where he reflected on his early career. He says " I was being respected as the next Woody Allen, and then I did Malcolm X!" Busts out laughing... that film put Spike into the lane of a "Black" only Director. Scorsese has been influenced by Spike. Imo, Spike is a better filmmaker than Woody Allen if not on the same level.
Spike isn't just a 'I'm black y'all' filmmaker. He's a legendary filmmaker who has given life to the sport
Why did you and Patrice O’Neal fall off?
Lol have you heard Patrice talk about that?
lynch made dune (havent seen but this always gets trashed) and is still a goat
Yes but Dune nowhere near as s***ty as American Oldboy
Just watched bamboozled last night, I love the subtly surreal energy in all of his work. It’s little idiosyncrasies that make his work brilliant
New thread coming tomorrow btw! Stay tuned
