You saying Larry Birds game would port better and that Magic Johnson would be Ben Simmons today shows it’s you who doesn’t know what you’re talking about my guy.

You pulled the defensive thing out your ass. Neither are + defenders but they were both serviceable. Magic even lead the league in steals a couple of times. Larry was too slow to be anything other than an average defender.

The three levels thing is overrated especially in that era where nobody was taking more than 3 a game...and Magic developed a 3 point shot later on in his career. The scoring argument is dumb anyway because one was A POINT GUARD and by default took way less shots.

this is how I know you don’t know what the F*** you’re talking about. Larry made MULTIPLE all defense teams and was known as one of the best help defenders in the league. Magic had to be taken off of guards because he was too slow. And leading the league in steals doesn’t mean s***. Curry has done that.

Larry’s game def would translate better today than Magic’s. All the spacing, small ball, and less physicality means he could dominate inside and out.

Also Larry was NEVER a minus defender.

Even if Magic had to be switched off the top 10% fastest guards Larry literally couldn’t even have ATTEMPTED to check guards let alone do it decently.

It wouldn’t translate better because he’s slower than f***ing molasses. Adam Morrison was a Bird clone and got cooked. Everything you said about the league today favors Magic being twice as dominant I honestly can’t fathom how you don’t see that.

Look dog. Watch this or any game from this series and tell me you don’t see Magic is the better player

    L. Larry Bird wasn’t slow. He wasn’t a high jumper but he was an underrated athlete. You’re just talking out ur ass at this point.

Adam Morrison literally played nothing like Larry Bird you fool. You’re just saying that because he’s a white forward with long hair.

The fact that magic couldn’t shoot is literally proof that he wouldn’t have been as effective had he played today. He would’ve screwed whatever team he was ons spacing.

I’ve literally listed multiple areas where Larry is the superior player. Literally the ONE thing magic did better was playmaking. And even then Larry was one of the best passers at the SF position of all time

you cherrypicked a losing series for them tho you can say an opposite thing about 84 finals where Bird dominated the whole court outside of Kareem pretty much

man was going up against prime time Dominque and Pistons. ...allow him to have the same skillset but develop his game in this era and he'd easily still score on most

    1. NBA draft.net is a terrible site.

Harold Miller used to get MJ comps.

Because some scouts made a bad comparison it means Larry Bird couldn’t have played in the nba today

How silly do you have to be to make that comp

I picked it because they were both in their primes in 87 and with arguably their best supporting casts...with the exception of Bird in 86. Could’ve picked 85 or 87, and even in 84 given the Lakers offense still ran through Kareem you could argue Bird didn’t outplay Magic by much at all.

Morrison nails Nowitzki-style turnaround fadeaways with ease, and is very comfortable throwing up one-handed floaters on the move from 10-15 feet. These types of shots (that the average player would get benched for even attempting) are what Morrison has built his legend on, and are the main reason for the controversial Larry Bird comparisons.

Youre quote literally says it was controversial. They also compared him to Dirk so I’m guessing Dirk isn’t fit for the modern game either

It’s controversial because they’re comparing a prospect to a legend not because the comparison isn’t apt. The point of bringing that up at all was that a player with all the cagey shot making ability in the world will struggle in the modern NBA if he’s unathletic...which Bird is relative to today’s game.

You act like he wasn’t putting up 50 on elite athletes like Dominique and Dr J back in his time. He was athletic enough to get to where he needed to be on the court and let his skill do the rest

Didn’t say that lmao. All I’m saying is Bird was an average athlete in the 80s AT BEST and today’s game overall features much more athletic and stronger players so he would be COMPLETELY outclassed from a physical perspective.

  • Magic had a top 5 player of all time on his team and still lost in 1984.
    Bird is definitely better.

But what Magic did as a 19 year old rookie is more legendary than anything Larry Legend ever did

That’s not true at all. I feel like that’s a myth. Players back then in the 80s and 90s were just as athletic.

You don’t actually think players are more athletic today due to genetics do you

average athlete kevin love literally couldn't be stopped from grabbing rebounds and putting up over 20ppg for a long while and larry is 100x the player

Larry is the better overall player. Magic is an all-time great point guard, he's specialized in passing and impeccable floor general. Larry could do it all and had a killer's mentality.

No way they're not. You have bench warmers in the NBA that are athletic freaks. There are a lot more pure athletes in the NBA then in the past.

MJ the only one on that list that would standout as a freak in today's nba. A lot of top guys today are more athletic than those guys you mentioned
