Dedicated thread to the filmmaker and his movies.
I’m watching Nymphomaniac finally for the first time (just finished Volume 1) and it’s interesting that this film is often grouped together with Antichrist and Melancholia as an unofficial ‘Depression Trilogy’ when it seems like more of an appropriate companion to The House that Jack Built more than those two films.
Antichrist and Melancholia both deal with celestial / other worldly influences impacting depression while NM and THTJB are both set-up in a confessional manner that dissects the protagonists lives through sex, murder etc.
All great ass films though. Haven’t seen Dancer in the Dark yet but that’s the next one I want to check out.

Many despise him but I love him. Perhaps my favorite filmmaker of the last 40 years. His 90s work is impeccable and in general, the 00s and 10s all have great films made by him.
need to grab that lil german von trier set, dogville on blu plus a few others in it

Have been considering copping the German Dancer in the Dark Blu since who knows if it’ll ever get a release in the States at this point.
2nd favorite filmmaker after the king Tarantino. Dogville one of the greatest films ever made. House that Jack built is also one of the best films about a psychopath
I've seen his major works besides Riget. Nymphomaniac was the only one I didn't like. Melancholia is one of my favs. Dogville is a masterpiece.

Need to see Dogville right now my favorites from him are THTJB and Breaking the Waves

What didn’t you like about Nymphomaniac?
Right now Antichrist is my least favorite but I still like it.

The second part gets too silly. The first part is okay. I remember hating that scene where the car is getting parked and they show a 45 degree sketch from top down. Just felt like he was throwing s*** at the wall. The ending was great though.

Oh s***, about to start Volume 2 right now. Will report back
no love for melancholia
I've been wanting to see this for ages because planet colissions are super interesting to me and i dont think theres any other films where that happens
But since i heard it's a tuff and depressing watch, i keep postponing it for the fact it might be a lil too confronting to make for an enjoyable watch
