This is one of those pieces of art that fill me with amazement, and then a hint of despair because I could only dream of creating something so powerful.

I've gotta get into Kobo Abe's books after this.

One shot one take was brilliant. Had to turn on subtitles mid way but kinda got the idea from some of the trailer I saw before. Great movie.

i recently finished reading the book and i absolutely fell in love with it. i was looking forward to watching the movie adaption since i heard it was good, but lowkey i was a little worried that it'd be some shmaltzy s*** given the time period + i heard the 2nd half of the movie was different from the book.

man...even if it's slightly different, this adaptation is just as good as the book imo. i find it hard to believe this came out 83 years ago lol. the heart and soul of the novel are still intact, and there's no beating around the bush when it comes to the issues that these migrant workers faced. while i prefer the more bleaker ending to the book, this one wraps up everything well enough to still leave me quite impressed.

I'm not super familiar with the genre but this is so far the best action movie I've seen. Heart was legit racing at some moments. Gareth Evans is a beast.

Watched Ran by Kurosawa. Gorgeous movie but kinda boring outside of the ridiculous scale and visuals.

I wanted to love this. It is a very good looking film. Hard for me to care about any of the characters, unfortunately. Still had a good time when I watched it.
