lol
You know he is about to drop a legendary album wearing a diamond Jesus crown on the cover he has to
To be fair, I think majority of people are only coming up with these complex a***ysis and readings on this image because itās Kendrick. If this was like a Brent Faiyaz album or something people would just say itās a dope picture and keep it moving
I definitely can see that, but Iād argue that because itās Kendrick thereās a level of context that helps color it. To my point in my other post about the crown, Brent Faiyaz for ex. has no where near the same duality between his public stature and relative reclusion.
Itās definitely kind of a āwell the difference is that he did itā sort of thing and I get your point, but I feel like Kendrickās cultivated this kind of fanbase for a reason
stfu
@Flaphead on his A game tonight
I respect that, thats stuff I donāt know about
I felt like so much was left up for interpretation with the DAMN. cover and for that Iāll always proclaim that its one of the best hip hop covers of all time.
With the Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers vibe I was under the impression we were gunna get a cover that a bit more fantastical and not as explicitly domestic. But the more i let it sit the more Iām picking up on some of the stuff youre alluding to, and how that may or may not aide the narrative of the album.
In a perfect world the music and the cover will fit like a glove hand in hand. At its best the cover feels a bit like something Sly Stone would do in the 70s.
Very Introspective post. You have provided me and this thread with a lot of food for thought. I like covers that make you think and predict various directions. Similar to a trailer for a movie.
I also agree that DAMN is one of the best hip-hop covers of all time.
Have you considered looking at the cover from a artistic pov?
Iām not the one that disliked it lol

Ur better than this .
Thanks fam
My immediate reaction is that it shows his defiance of the celebrity lifestyle, particularly in that his kids and wife would ever be thrust into the spotlight. He is the king, but has no need for a throne or a castle. His homestead is wherever those he loves are, and thatās more valuable than any big beautiful house. But the diamond encrusted crown is a reminder that he still does own that title and its burden. Itās a really interesting duality that feels particularly reflective of what we know of Kendrick as a person - which, despite his stature, is relatively little.
What are your thoughts?
Wow I love your interpretation man , youāre a great writer. Defs articulated better than I can.
Iām sorry for existing
White people are genuinely the worst, it's incredibly hilarious that even with all the brutality inflicted on our people by the complacent and their genocidal rulers, we couldn't give a s*** enough to punish y'all unless we were talking s*** like this, at least we accepted our humanity instead of looking at it with fear, how does it feel to know that you are truly human after all?

Really appreciate it fam, both you and @fiveprestos
I love aesthetic philosophy s*** and the fact that Kendrick puts so much into his work makes it that much more rewarding to interpret
