Cole and Kendrick really out here telling the world they cheat on their BMâs and they stick around.
he is already aware of both the mistake and revelation which makes his vulnerability feel cheap. Its very planned to craft an opinion about him.
The "controversy" is planned and doesnt really even stick its neck out. Even in his showing of vulnerability he is given a protection in that he is aware that he is going through the excercise.
This is literally the cool guy acting like he doesn't want to be cool which makes him all the cooler to his fans. its not that profound. Its very hollywood.
Why does that make it feel cheap?
How would he tried to improve himself if he didnt realize his hangups, or already got over them?
Also thats just part of the album, most of the album is about him saying "im a person too" imo, instead of these grandiose assumptions & ideals people have placed on him since tpab.
Idgi. The album is just mostly about self reflection, & trying to break the ideals/idolization some have forced upon him. And yes, most people do use celebrities as a shell to place their own ideals into that they then convince themselves that is who the celebrity(s) are, while others see celebrities as robots or these "abstract things" that only exist when theyre paying attention to them. Kinda like how people treat teachers & are surprised when they see them "irl" at a grocey store. Theyre just people.
This album is recognizing his own faults through life up to today (which a lot of people can relate too), and parts of it is him rejecting the celebrity disassociation. And of course parts of the album is him explaining how he got to this point of reflection & why.
An album full of mindless anarchy or an album full of sanitized holier than thouness is what would be cheap.
Not saying you have to like the album tho, just think youre being unfair/misjudging, imo.
Great interludes, Saviour is nice.
my uncle would tell me the s*** in the movies could only be magic
this year I did 43 shows and took it all home to buy him a casket
that verse was great
I think another thing Kendrick is tryna convey is he just wanna make some normal songs
Not every song gotta be a crazy concept
we need more s*** like LUST and Mr Morale
trippy and futuristic kendrick>>>>>
I mean if you listen to gkmc and especially tpab vs damn and this album, if you simplify it a lot, it's like naive optimism vs sober pessismism

This album feels more cinematic than GKMC to me
For sure, never really saw that album as being cinematic though.

Cole wouldâve been amazing on Father Time tbh
He wouldâve been in his bag with the dad issues topic & that beat up his alley

LUST is such a good song
Reminds me of a Love Below track
Love United In Grief because it reminds me of Andre production wise like Love Hater, My Favorite Things, and Solo Reprise
