Man I had to write about Lemonade for a class one time there is 0% chance this album ain’t making its way into some curriculums šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

You paid tuition money to learn about some mid?

    Kendrick Lamar

    why is that

The raps just make me feel Kendrick is more sincere, he talks about it like he has a deep regret/shame for it which I think is more realistic.

Vince doesn’t really glorify it either but the way speaks on taking a life in his songs doesn’t feel as realistic

Your opinion, but compared to ever other artist out there is still >>>>

But by Kendrick standards its understandable how it can be a shock.

But again he’s always done things outside the box so I didn’t know what’s so shocking about kendrick new turn.

well i can answer this one

this album isn't enjoyable to listen to while GKMC, TPAB & Damn are

thats where the shock comes from

can’t wait for some nerd to offer a course on this album at an Ivy League school

The reptition of the f word exemplifies the impact of his message

not messing with Rich spirit and Die hard (even though it's not. bad song just generic)

I love this album cause it feels like Kendrick is able to express himself without there being any absolute agenda that someone can attach to it. this aint no pro-black album like TPAB, or a day in the life in the hood like GKMC.
these are just unfiltered thoughts from a man who has watched everything that's been going on in the world for five years.

the production is very eerie and subtle but the way kendrick is able to switch cadencecs and tell his stories is still peak kendrick.

    Preciate this

i get that, and i totally understand he was demonstrating the growth of ignorance by realizing the intentions of the f-slur, but i worry it will be taken out of context by actual transphobes

satire requires a clarity of purpose and target, lest it be mistaken for and contribute to that which it intends to criticize

Oh it definitely has been and will be. People are heinous. I think that says more about them than Kendrick though.

Kendrick is trying to invite ignorant people like he was in and change them and the effectiveness of that is something I question. Not just with transphobia, like with black on black violence or any other issue he tackles. He's appealing to those people and showing them in stark detail how he escaped it. I think the missing piece is always going to be money though. He rarely examines that part of it.

Or like realizing maybe music cannot embed the humanity of transgender people on cis people the way that just knowing them irl does (like him with his uncle/cousin). So maybe just celebrating them instead of using it as a moment to teach. But hey, pickings are pretty slim on this topic.

Makes 100% sense and I'm sorry to hear that you gotta deal with being deadnamed frequently in a place that I'm assuming is a regular part of your daily life

Rome is a fire name too

Did you have to change your name legally after your transitioned? Asking because if you did, couldn't you press people on work for not calling you by your actual name because your deadname is no way your name any longer even legally?

it's alright, after 20 years of life you learn to just let a lot of things go haha

    and thank you!!

unfortunately i haven't legally changed my name yet because it requires so much paperwork in my local court and newspapers, not to mention the $250+ court fee that i definitely do not have the money for LOL

also i'm still very much in the process of transitioning (though i wish i was done with it LOL)! right now i'm taking estrogen and am enveloped in hormone replacement therapy
