no, I'm saying the use of the f word in a derogatory way towards gay people is much more socially acceptable today in many cultures than the n word towards black people in a derogatory way, so the jack harlow example isn't a***ogous
oh, so your post is saying homophobia is more acceptable than racism, gotcha
I'd say kendrick is probably more honest in that way, drake comes off as being comfortable with showing vulnerabilities & relationship flaws
For sure
nigga put n95 at track 2, worldwide steppers at 3
every f*** was dead and gone
Iām still shocked he didnāt once mention the masks in the list of things he yelled to take off tbh
That feels poignant. Like the masks were never the real problem that we need to shed
Kendrick went from "We gon be alright" to "I am not your savior and i don't care about you, b****"
Well if you listen to the album then I don't see how you could make it out to be a selfish decision
He got 2 lil ones man. That change everything. Especially when you got personal problems. You realise main thing u gotta fix is yourself because there's your own lil creations dependent on u being right
I didn't take the album as depressing personally I took it like a therapy session. Deciding to face your demons the most important part of healing it's s positive thing and that's what happening here
I hate using replay value but U is more replay able than We Cry Together lol
u still gon be hearing this a lot all over the social media lol
how do ppl consider this album to be inauthentic, conservative, and reactionary
Well he didnt mention the album #1
But conservative can be a big word. For someone largely considered a conscious rapper, Kendrick does push a very McMindfulness, pseudo-enlightened message.
I donāt hold it against him and he even had an anti-capitalist bar on here, but that doesnāt mean that there arent broader points to be made on how the term consciousness has largely decayed throughout the years in mainstream hip hop.
But it brings up a fair question: was there ever a time when mainstream hop hop could be considered to some degree radical? Probably not. A lot of acts 30+ years back were deeply homophobic and to many degrees socially conservative, so I think thereās a lot of nuance to account for
In short, its dangerous to solely let hip hop determine your politics. As much as I dislike both, John McWhorter and Tahnesi Coates had a great debate about this like 14-15 years ago.
Cole and Kendrick took the easy way out when s*** got critical a couple years back.
NoName lowkey got niggas backpedaling lmfao
Itās all good tho. I feel them for doing it. They never really said they were black saviors but definitely leaned into it.
Looking back that Cole song was soooooo funny
"Something about the queen's tone that is bothering me"
Nigga took an L in that beef. Deserves to have his top 3 spot removed for that
I always appreciated how human and down to earth kendrick music felt, even in TPAB when he was clearly tryna go out his way to uplift ppl and step more outside himself than usual
but he took it to another level on this album. s*** uncomfortable to listen to at points and that's what the best art does, easy 9/10!
never looking at this thread again!!
making uncomfortable music on purpose @python
Iām not saying Drake isnāt honest
He absolutely is
But heās not this kind of honest
Like people are never gonna listen to one of those kinda drake tracks and come away feeling conflicted or angry at him or etc
Why should we be angry if there's no reason to be? I don't get your point please explain
Idk not necessarily
But drakes honesty is a little boring to me at this point
Like he doesnāt really say anything new
If heās gonna make songs like that I really wanna hear him dig deep into why he is the way he is
Like you can hear how on this album how much fame f***s Kendrick up
I donāt really feel like Iāve heard drake truly reflecting on that since like redemption
I respect your opinion
True. But different lanes, he doesn't necessarily need to do that
I agree
But dude was saying drake is way better at making introspective music
Iām not mad at it Iām just saying the song is built on a contradiction. Kendrick: I was taught intention donāt matter.
Cousin: But you didnāt have that same energy for that white girl at your show. If you truly believe intent donāt matter, let a white girl say the n word.
This whole song is an example of Kendrick using the f slur with the right intention. But the whole argument above is about how intention doesnāt matter cause then heās a hypocrite.
I understand
that's what you got from this? lol i just figured he was saying that he's a flawed human and not this paragon of justice and morality that folks think.
Niggas was on some "where's Ja" s*** with him in 2020 lmaooo
Yeah i get that people saw him as his savior
That doesn't mean he gotta make the outro a song with a hook that goes
I CHOSE ME I'M SORRY (X50)
As opposed to choosing .. the people? Or what? Being a messiah? There's other ways than either having a messiah complex or a hyper indovidualist mentality that he displayed here
is tpab worse now that we know everyone only pretended to understand the concept?
nobody knew the theme was infidelity
Mans beens thriving off negativity since ktt1
Wild
I get what you're saying, but I think he was purposely showing what he was doing wrong by doing it
The whole song is from his viewpoint as a kid
he brought a white girl on stage & criticized her for rapping along to the n word as a kid?
Idk not necessarily
But drakes honesty is a little boring to me at this point
Like he doesnāt really say anything new
If heās gonna make songs like that I really wanna hear him dig deep into why he is the way he is
Like you can hear how on this album how much fame f***s Kendrick up
I donāt really feel like Iāve heard drake truly reflecting on that since like redemption
itās a shame because drake could have a lot more to rap about to as far as him dealing with fame at that level.
Iām still shocked he didnāt once mention the masks in the list of things he yelled to take off tbh
That feels poignant. Like the masks were never the real problem that we need to shed
I was waiting for the mask line to drop and I'm pretty sure Kenny knows how the culture has developed here in the states...it's awesome
oh, so your post is saying homophobia is more acceptable than racism, gotcha
like not personally to me but on a societal level i think blatant homophobia is def more accepted than blatant racism nowadays yeah
making uncomfortable music on purpose @python
yes as the best painters, filmmakers, etc have done for thousands of years
dumb f***
But what Iām saying is why do we need to hear his viewpoint on that? Like if youāve heard any of his music you know exactly what his viewpoint is
So then people are wanting his view for a different reason imo
this is hiphop man, gtfoh wiht this "WHy Do Y'aLl NeEd insert rapper's name To sPEak On cuRrent (bLacK) IssUes" energy
like this aint that hyperpop BULLSHIT y'all guzzle up, we call it culture for a reason
I understand
So you agree that Kendrick is being contradictory on the song?
