    One of my good homies from college had who transitioned 3 years ago now and lost most of her family said it made her cry, the last verse in particular

    I really liked it
    It’s a lot to process but I like how it feels like he’s just almost stream of consciousness but it’s still so well written
    Production is incredible too

    Gonna take me a long time to really understand what he’s saying on a lot of it but I always appreciate that about Kendrick

    I love the intro most that beat is so damn good, i cant wait to fully grasp the lyrics

    "The Culture" demands so much of you but because of its decentralized nature is exempt from any sort of accountability itself

    It's hard to get more explicit than "I can't please everybody"

    Or as another bard once said, "they love you then they hate you then they love you again"

    i often love watching the arc of artists going through the motions of getting cocky with fame and then eventually just getting insanely cynical (or depressed alternatively) and putting out albums like these. probably a weird comparison but it reminds me a lot of Mark Kozelek/SKM's later work honestly (albeit way more accessible) in terms of albums just composed of them ranting about the world and themselves from as cynical a POV as humanly possible

    even the line about cancel culture

    to me, when he says "What the f*** is cancel culture, dawg?" he's mocking the fact that people are so scared of this abstract thing called cancel culture

    i don't think it's intended as some quasi-IDW jeremiad at all
    because he follows it up with "Say what I want about you niggas, I'm like Oprah, dawg"
    he's not afraid of this, he thinks its vaguely pathetic to fearmonger while at the same time reserving his right to speak freely

    a stance that rejects the "cancel culture is bad"/"its called accountability" dichotomy and so should make both "sides" mad
