Where on this album does Kendrick acknowledge his own actions playing a role in people having this perception of him?

his last song being “mortal man”. some laughed at him talking to tupac and he’s saying directly “i’m not gonna be there for you” when everything jumps off. so in reality it’s kinda ironic that people acted shocked that he was quiet in 2020. he already told you what was gonna happen in 2017

I think that this has been a prevalent message throughout his career, just like he's been telling us all along that he's not perfect and has flaws. But he also has lyrics like

I made To Pimp a Butterfly 'fore you told me
To use my vocals to save man-kind for you

The message would've been better if he explored the contradictions/duality more. Because a lot of people aren't getting that it's intentional and I can't really blame them

I think Kendrick lowkey expected people to be more outraged about him cheating and some of the lines on MM&TBS I think he expected to get "crucified", that's why the Jesus imagery. Some of the cancel culture lines feel pre-emptive too

I just think it was a beautiful precursor to what is in my opinion Kendrick’s most vulnerable body of work to date. Now that the hype of Kendrick’s initial return is gone it has really allowed me to appreciate the song more. Kendrick’s third verse may be one of his best ever no cap

i wish he dropped that in april and gave it more time to breathe. that’s such a dense and powerful song, it was a huge moment but i wish we let it permeate a lil more longer before the album dropped

it's the idea that if you had said something controversial or did something bad in the past, social media will dig it up and ruin ur career

i honestly don't think it exists and it's just a right wing bogeyman + euphemism for "oh my god im being held accountable for something i said cancel culture xD"

He isn’t necessarily railing against cancel culture, he’s specifically talking about people being preemptively in fear of saying what’s on their mind, whereabouts Kendrick is like “I don’t care, people can get upset.”.

Cancel culture isn’t really a thing, there isn’t really anything to be scared of.

He even brings it up later with the R. Kelly s***, it doesn’t really matter because plenty of people still play his music, even the ones who appear outraged and try to make it known.

There isn’t anything to rail against. It’s the internet, which again he makes reference to multiple times throughout the album, unplugging from it, worrying about critics etc.

It’s all there, it just isn’t presented in a completely linear fashion.

i wonder if kendrick does something for the 10 year anniversery of gkmc this year. maybe drop a special edition copy with some songs that didnt make the cut.

I take it less as like wah cancel culture bad rather that artist shouldn’t let the idea of cancel culture scare them from saying what they really feel
