When I see s*** like this weeks after the album, I really question if yāall listen to the music as much as you claim lol.
Where on this album does Kendrick acknowledge his own actions playing a role in people having this perception of him?
also we gotta remember mortal man. this idea of kendrick rejecting the status he was given in culture isnāt brand new, heās really been setting us up for this.
and remember what he said on the heart part 4
It's blasphemy, how many gon' blast for me?
I prophesied on my last song, you laughed at me
Oh, when the s*** get brackin', don't you ask for me
How many leaders gon' tell you the truth after me?
his last song being āmortal manā. some laughed at him talking to tupac and heās saying directly āiām not gonna be there for youā when everything jumps off. so in reality itās kinda ironic that people acted shocked that he was quiet in 2020. he already told you what was gonna happen in 2017

I think that this has been a prevalent message throughout his career, just like he's been telling us all along that he's not perfect and has flaws. But he also has lyrics like
I made To Pimp a Butterfly 'fore you told me
To use my vocals to save man-kind for you
The message would've been better if he explored the contradictions/duality more. Because a lot of people aren't getting that it's intentional and I can't really blame them
I think Kendrick lowkey expected people to be more outraged about him cheating and some of the lines on MM&TBS
I think he expected to get "crucified", that's why the Jesus imagery. Some of the cancel culture lines feel pre-emptive too
Letās gooooo
Iām coppin

Man I donāt know what happened but giving the album some space I revisited The Heart 5 again today and itās all I can think about
Just so f***ing incredible

Man Iām in the f***ing same place today. Canāt stop listening or thinking about Heart, especially the video. Itās a heavenly song and might be the best Heart at this pointā¦
Three weeks or so ago I said it was the weakest
Amazing how music does that.

I just think it was a beautiful precursor to what is in my opinion Kendrickās most vulnerable body of work to date. Now that the hype of Kendrickās initial return is gone it has really allowed me to appreciate the song more. Kendrickās third verse may be one of his best ever no cap

Itās a 10/10 utilisation of that sample for me. Itās just beautiful. No other words tbh

i wish he dropped that in april and gave it more time to breathe. thatās such a dense and powerful song, it was a huge moment but i wish we let it permeate a lil more longer before the album dropped
What the f*** is cancel culture dog takes me out every time
it's the idea that if you had said something controversial or did something bad in the past, social media will dig it up and ruin ur career
i honestly don't think it exists and it's just a right wing bogeyman + euphemism for "oh my god im being held accountable for something i said cancel culture xD"
What the f*** is cancel culture dog takes me out every time
He isnāt necessarily railing against cancel culture, heās specifically talking about people being preemptively in fear of saying whatās on their mind, whereabouts Kendrick is like āI donāt care, people can get upset.ā.
Cancel culture isnāt really a thing, there isnāt really anything to be scared of.
He even brings it up later with the R. Kelly s***, it doesnāt really matter because plenty of people still play his music, even the ones who appear outraged and try to make it known.
There isnāt anything to rail against. Itās the internet, which again he makes reference to multiple times throughout the album, unplugging from it, worrying about critics etc.
Itās all there, it just isnāt presented in a completely linear fashion.
i wonder if kendrick does something for the 10 year anniversery of gkmc this year. maybe drop a special edition copy with some songs that didnt make the cut.

I take it less as like wah cancel culture bad rather that artist shouldnāt let the idea of cancel culture scare them from saying what they really feel

Iām hoping he does something since he back outside
