R Kelly will probably be in the next Kendrick album. A FaceTime from prison.
You mean on the next Ye album
Its not that much of a mess either imo the message very clear theres just alot of intentional contradictions within the album
Yeah exactly, the first thing from this era we heard Kendrick say is āitās all about perspectiveā
I think a lot of times Kendrick is pondering on different perspectives rather than like presenting them as facts
Its not that much of a mess either imo the message very clear theres just alot of intentional contradictions within the album
I agree with this but I think he should've made it clear on the album that he sees how he contradicts himself. Because now people think he doesn't even realize it. He even could've tied it into the two sides of the Gemini and it being a double album or something
Same here idk if Iāve ever bought something that quick lol
Fr this boutta be my first ever vinyl lol
i mean he clarified on stage that he wears the crown so people recognize "one of the greatest prophets that ever walked the Earth" in addition to saying that "they judge you, they judge Christ"
(sidenote: i am not a christian, but i do come from a christian background)
i take that as the whole macrocosm-microcosm that is apparent in the major religions of man being innately spiritual (or really, beings period if you wanna get animistic) that man is ultimately a reflection or a part of God. Advaita Vedanta within Hinduism touches on this and it translates into non-duality, it isn't what we do that is spiritual, in essence we are all spiritual beings out of mere existence, because that's also what God is, ipsum esse subsistens. love thy neighbor because you are also your neighbor in pure consciousness/spirit and vice versa, subject and object are one in the same
anyways, metaphysics aside the dude is literally rapping throughout the entire album that "he is not your savior" plus revealing his own personal demons and skeletons in the closet. this is obviously antithetical to Jesus who was reported to be without sin. so why would kendrick don a crown of thorns as if he was actually Jesus the savior of humanity if you understand the entire concept of the album? clearly it's a metaphor of sorts. i took it as him wearing the crown of thorns symbolizes what they did to Jesus after they finally got a hold of him for his crucifixion, Jesus went against the times, and Kendrick is doing it in similar fashion by speaking on cancel culture and what he perceives as a lack of consciousness + freedom of speech in the U.S (plus the controversy he received for Auntie Diaries, he was clearly anticipating this to happen which is why the crown was literally donned on the album cover)
i guess the metaphor could be argued to be heavy-handed or the message in general could be lost in translation due to how inextricably associated the crown of thorns is correlated with Jesus, but i think a cursory a***ysis of the album itself it isn't hard to glean that he isn't wearing the crown in an arrogant preening manner. that's just me though and that's what i think makes sense. i don't think kendrick would make an album detailing his flaws and shortcomings to then flip into a messiah complex, it wouldn't be consistent with his own art.
really fire reading of the album, and shows the benefits of revisiting an album time and time again. Like everybody keeps bringing up the outfit but keeps forgetting the big "Your Savior, I AM NOT" words plastered on the screen
Crazy how much Heart V grew on me. Thought it was the weakest in the series on first day, now I think itās f***ing beautiful.
Or you could just try and figure it out for yourself. Or not, itās kind of up to you and how much youāre willing to put into it, and potentially get out of it as a result.
My point is that I don't blame people for coming to the conclusion that he claims he doesn't want the savior mantle but is floating on water in his videos and dressing like Jesus. The messaging is contradictory, but he doesn't make it clear enough that he knows this
The general public needs their hand held to grasp a concept album. I think that's why he included the skits/poem on GKMC/TPAB and why people get the stories of those albums easier than DAMN and this
I agree with this but I think he should've made it clear on the album that he sees how he contradicts himself. Because now people think he doesn't even realize it. He even could've tied it into the two sides of the Gemini and it being a double album or something
He has songs where he's literally rapping about contradicting himself and not being perfect though. It's literally there, a lot of people just heard this album went omg "he's mad at cancel culture and he said slurs and mentioned R. Kelly" and just left it at that

Thats def valid. the ambiguousness of the album doesnt do it any favors.
I fw it though

and the dumb part about it is, if you bring up how this is a "metaphor" or a form of symbolism niggas will call you a nerd that don't touch grass, when it's probably the most obvious thing that sticks out in the entire project

The "savior of rap" type mantle was something that wasn't just placed on him. He used to embrace it and maybe even played a role in people having that perception of him. I think he should've acknowledged this contradiction, because the album kinda comes across as blaming other people for placing this burden on him
I saw Scratchin Mamba's thread about how Kendrick abandoned people by choosing himself and I feel he should be able to. Can't force the man to live a life he doesn't want to But it's kinda wild to switch up from
"People say I speak for generation Y
Why lie? I do" to Savior and Mirror without admitting his own role in how he was perceived
I cant believe anyone can disrespect Keem after Savior Interlude
My uncle would tell me the s*** in the movies can only be magic
This year I did 43 shows and took it all home to buy him a casket

Except he's not being a "savior of rap" he's rejecting having all the answers and knowing everything and acknowledging that he's a f*** up at times. Which is actually something he spoke about on TPAB but everybody just looks at that as the "blackity black album"
and the dumb part about it is, if you bring up how this is a "metaphor" or a form of symbolism niggas will call you a nerd that don't touch grass, when it's probably the most obvious thing that sticks out in the entire project
that's cuz everybody is "Mr. B****es" on the internet

What is the song CROWN ABOUT BRO????????
Crazy how much Heart V grew on me. Thought it was the weakest in the series on first day, now I think itās f***ing beautiful.
still havent gotten into it
still havent gotten into it
It really does click. The video helped and the switch to the chorus is dope
Heavy is the head that CHOSE to wear the crown
Very next line is "To whom it's GIVEN, much is required now" and he's talking about how people are quick to forget all he's done for them That's not accounting for his own role in this perception people have of him imo

āheavy is the head that CHOSE to wear the crownā is him explicitly stating that he participated in his own deification
not enough people mention that on the heart 3 he literally says hip-hop will die if you donāt buy GKMC lmao heās aware that he played into this.

i think somebody can give you something but you have to choose to use what theyāve given you.
and in the hook, heās acknowledging both sides of it, where people propped him up and where he accepted and continued to perpetuate the narrative.
in like 2011 i remember the ākendrick is gonna save hip-hopā talks in comment sections and with friends, it was a common thing. i wouldnāt say it was until the heart part 3 when he fully leaned into that idea
Very next line is "To whom it's GIVEN, much is required now" and he's talking about how people are quick to forget all he's done for them That's not accounting for his own role in this perception people have of him imo
No heās saying he chose the role and there were consequences and effects. It was given to him and he chose to accept and thereās a lot more that came with it, including confronting his own flaws and imperfections, which plays into feeling resentful to people you offered to help in the first place. Thatās part of what came with his choice. That is him accounting for his role in it

When I see s*** like this weeks after the album, I really question if yāall listen to the music as much as you claim lol.

I've mentioned that about The Heart 3 on here before as part of this discussion He was also making songs like Heaven and Hell, Hiiipower early in his career. Talking about 2pac coming to him in a dream and telling him not to let his message die
I think he should've made this more clear on the album. Because if the only example of that is the line on Crown..
