I mean, it's a valid comparison. GOT Ssn8, TLJ, newest season of Doctor Who, and this are all kinda in the same boat.
People hating on it because of inconsistent character beats/questionable narrative decisions, and then fans/creators are trying to gaslight the people being critical to appear bigoted or unknowledgable.
To me, GoT S8 is a lazy piece of s*** that, for the most part, priotises looking good over any kind of substance.
TLJ, I can get that comparison. Rise of Skywalker, hell nah.
I cant speak to the entirety of TLOU2 cause Im not done yet, but it does look like they did add some relationships and personalities at the cost of a cleaner story. Ill grant them that they're trying to tell a wider narrative than TLOU1 did though
I think it's pretty telling when the people that love this can't defend why and instead result to saying stuff like this^
I'm not even a hater of this game, I just hate seeing fans getting called misogynist/homophobic because they rightfully don't like a mediocre story.
my opinion: the game is great and better than the original in every way
I trust you.

similar reasoning to the criticisms for the star wars sequels
Did you ignore the post I made after where I literally said that the first game also had a generic theme, but still managed to have focus/direction due to the characters and the approach unlike the second?
"Because that theme is generic, seen before, simpler than the first"
Dude you literally wrote this. And the whole "focus" it's dumb as hell when you have a story that is aiming for an entire different thing: a sprawling epic that goes back and forth in time clearly has no intentions of being as "focused" and minimalist as the first one.
It constantly leaves me a bad taste after reading that some ND higher ups forced some things that some people on the dev team just wasn't f***ing with
Why would you force people to play something they already know they won't like?
I see this argument so much, "you have to play it to know" and it's like....you literally don't have to. If it's not something you think you'll enjoy or if you're literally pissed off by narrative decisions, it's totally fine to express disappointment and not buy a product.
Crazy thought but they just might hold a different opinion if they give it a go for themselves.

The second's theme is a simpler theme than the first. Doesn't mean the first one isn't also a simple concept. The first game becomes more complicated because of the directions it takes.
Something sprawling/jumping back and forth in time can still be focused lmao. Focused doesn't mean minimalist/linear/etc. It just means everything is cohesive and works to serve everything else.

You can't say it's bad because you haven't experienced it first hand.
And if you still don't like what they're doing after you experience it first hand, you're just __insert insult here__.
The most reasonable critique and one that should have as much weight as it's had is how they do Joel getting s\*\*\* stomped so early
I think there's a way to do THAT....better than they did it.

My point wasn’t comparing them in quality or artistic merit by any means! Just the nature of the conversation amongst the ‘fanbase’ and anyone who has experienced it

To side with him, I played TLOU1 for like 2 hours a couple days ago, and while I saw the narrative 7 years ago and loved it, playing it adds an entirely different element. Even people who hate TLOU2 praise the gameplay to even higher degrees

not to mention how they wait so long before they give the backstory and trying to make you empathize, and it's just a long ass forcefeeding.

I didn't say it isn't focused, just that it doesn't have the type of focusing/centralization that the first one has due to more ambitious storylines.
Story is trash but the gameplay is top tier, sometimes you think you’re watching a movie than actually playing cause some scenes are that intense

Im not quite to the time I've seen referenced, but I heard they try to make you empathize with f***ing Abby
I think I saw the full name and I stg if they do what I think they're gonna do I could never pay money for this
Also let's not act like the vast majority of vocal gamers aren't incredibly hard to please

I thought that was a bold, confident choice. Any Hollywood movie would desperately try to explain her motivations right out in fear of the audience's impatience.

how is it bold? Most movies don't go for that long for something like that, especially with run time constraints. you don't take time because it creates the contrast and the immediate "ohhh/oh damn" feeling in the audience. Not let youur feelings marinate and try and be like 'but here's why"
