Any and all use of AI in film is totally unacceptable, that's the standard that we as viewers/consumers need to set

We will not stand for it now or ever

It's not about this particular instance. If we excuse this and they know they can get away with it, they'll keep pushing further and further

I gotta think nobody batted an eye two years ago when they were making the movie. If they were making this today I’m sure after all the talk about AI use in production and the strikes the people working on this would’ve thought twice.

Sucks because now a movie that seemingly is really good has this huge blemish overshadowing it. Im not excusing it at all, and I think that the people involved with the movie who aren’t involved in post (actors, set crew, etc) are bummed about the basing it’s getting rn. The blame really is all on the director and producers for allowing this to happen.

Might have to pull the ‘ol sneak into the theater for this one

The fact that shills for AI in film use even exist is really f***ing grim for this industry

Nobody batted an eye because the film already had a sizeable post crew of graphic artists who spent countless hours focusing on perfecting the photography to nail the period look of the film.

Why the hell would (or should) anybody give a s*** that AI images — which were edited further after generation by the crew — were utilized for 3 interstitial images? In an independent film with a limited budget that already had a great team of artists no less. Other than self-satisfied losers on Letterboxd and Twitter who leap at every chance to grandstand, of course.

Like that pathetic reply tweet ITT of someone saying "this would have been a dream job for me". Oh please. What melodramatic nonsense created purely for a fleeting moment of attention that will be forgotten about before the week is over. Yeah, thats who we should be trying to protect with AI legislation, the person who has enough free time on a weekday to recreate AI images on social media in an ironic bid to make herself appear worth hiring.

I think one user saying “my take is more popular” does justify some people in here calling it a Twitter take, however it does not mean they are in way wrong.

  • I think there’s definitely a discussion to be had about letting a movie production get away with using AI for a small thing could lead them to using it for something slightly bigger the next time and so on.

That’s just been the history with technology and film. Now we see good vs bad cgi discussions about every popcorn summer movie and the pining for practical effects

Outrage culture can for sure be annoying but it shouldn’t shape your opinion on a topic imo

  • Also I want consistency. Anyone ok with AI in film you should be ok with it in music and other media. I don’t want to hear nothing about it being different mediums. All that tells me is you respect one more than the other and should stick to discussing the one you care about

If you’re fine with it being used for any form of media that’s your stance and I’m not in the business of trying to sway someone’s opinion online

Anyways here’s some actual discussion about the movie

I liked it a lot! David was f***ing awesome and even with a cast of mostly unknowns they managed to sell it. It’s not inherently a full on horror but it’s suspenseful as hell and very tense. Now about the AI, I’m on the position that it should not be taking away jobs in any way. But the use of it in this film is so minuscule and when it happens I truly can’t grasp how someone could disregard the entire film for it. Very crowd pleasing and anyone a fan of the 70s format will nerd out about it. There’s so much talent displayed throughout. I’d give it a solid 8/10
