Movie was solid. Didn’t love the ending, could’ve wrapped things up better

I haven’t gone to a movie and not thought of this bit since I first saw this episode as a kid

i wanted to see this for david dastmalchian and he didn't disappoint, been such a quality actor for 2 decades now and i hope to see him get lead actor work

movie wasn't scary, was pretty schlocky and rode the line between campy and corny very dangerously

but it captured a particular vibe extremely well imo, i had a weird fascination with late night tv when i was younger and i think it did a pretty good job emulating that

also felt like a bigger budget youtube a***og horror series, whether that's a good thing or not is up to personal taste, im still not particularly sure how i feel on it overall

overall, a decent flick, i appreciate an original setting for a horror movie like this, but i also kind of feel like playing into a "documentary/found footage" idea was a tad detrimental to the fear factor, if the horror was more subtle i think it could've worked a lot more

I agree. The behind the scenes concept I feel could have went crazy in the last act. Imagine if hell is breaking loose, Jack is screaming for them to go off the air. They go off, and as s*** is going down, the button gets hit somehow and they go back live. America sees some wild demon possession and murder s***.

The mass hypnosis didn’t land all the way for me

yeah the BTS concept was undercooked imo, could've led to more interesting moments than the 4th wall break ending.

another problem i had with the BTS is that it didn't feel real? idk no one reacting to a camera pointed in their face during high pressure situations felt a bit silly, even just one interaction with the producer telling the camera man to f*** off or something would have done wonders immersion wise

Great point, something like “the f*** are you filming for”

  • Just got back from watching it. Very entertaining

Someone should take just the actual ‘on air’ tv segments, edit in tv commercials from 1977 whenever they cut to break, and release the like full hour Night Owls show as it would’ve aired on tv

    This was spooky.

Don’t have much more to say than that.
Some things are a lil goofy.
But it’s a cool Halloween watch.

Watching it at the late night time slot it ‘aired on tv’ around Halloween (or even literally on Halloween night) will become a tradition for many, I’m sure of it

I just reactived my a list to see this haha

Not incredible but solid enough 7/10

  • Solid movie. Loved the vibe they set from the beginning and how well they used the concept. Even Jack's back story was pretty interesting to see, and Dastmalchian does such a great job throughout.

Some of the fx were pretty janky though. There are scenes that could've been truly terrifying if they didn't look so goofy.

I found out about the AI s*** through Letterboxd and it really sucks to hear. For a movie this creative it's a shame they would go that route.

Overall though it's gonna be a great movie to throw on during Halloween.

This was amazing. Hate how 3 images overshadowed such a great movie, the letterboxd reviews are genuinely hilarious and seem caricaturish.

David and the demonic girl killed it. Loved the mockumentary-ish style, I think it would have been cooler if the whole movie was portrayed through tape recordings of the show. Some more time with the demon would have been cool too.

Super unique movie even though the plot is quite basic apart from the setting.

Agree although I think it could have leaned more into the horror.
