i think the issue now is that since internet is a thing you could broadcast what happening in your local neighbourhood to the world which then creates stuff like r/Chiraqology

It’s not helping anything, but there’s bigger contributors.

Street rap didn’t do the damage that minimum wage laws, war on d**** and welfare did

  • Dec 29, 2021

The government systematically ruining black American families and education ruined black ppl more than f***ing music. Bozo.

As someone who used to listen to street rap/drill music heavily

I’ve come to realize that the s*** only brings about negative energy, nothing about it actually helps you except getting you hype. Even if the rapper spits a little bit of game, they go right back into the same bs they rapped about 10 songs ago on the same album.

Drill music got these niggas my age and younger hitting the streets cuz they see another nigga get money and hoes off it. When in reality these drill rapper’s future is either death or jail if they stay in the streets. S***, street rap in general have had generations of black men trying to be in the streets cuz they want to be like their favorite rapper, who’s chillin in their gated communities while making this music.

And I know they’ll be people that will say “DOnT BLamE tHe ARt” but that doesn’t apply anymore in this era, black men are legit dying off diss records cuz each side wanted to get more disrespectful.

don't let these white people in the comments tell you youre wrong, good on you for seeing this

Because the portrayal in the media is that you either got to be a street rapper or an athlete to make it as a black man.

Don’t get me wrong the system is not exempt from the problems they caused in the community. But we had still leaders standing up against it rather than play along cuz they want that check cleared.

I pinpoint street rap because most black kids, especially from the hoods look up to these dudes as a way out or as a way to be some a “man” when in reality it’s a trap.

Yes sir,it really is a trap,I truly believe street rap is promo for private prisons. It’s hard for a positive black kid to stay that way when there peers and his crushes tell him he’s a lame and a sucker for staying on the straight and narrow. And then the mainstream tells him the exact same thing,it’s kinda sad really.

In MD/ D.C. dudes are bragging about killing 13 year old kids on diss tracks and it’s sad. I’m sure local rappers are doing that in other cities too

this reminded me of when tupac beefed with some chicago gang killing a 11 year old
"y'all keep killing kids, Imma kill all you mfs" - Tupac

fast forward to now, some people really are bragging about playing gangsters with minors smh and act like they deserve the deadly consequences from it

The black community will crush the positivity outta anyone choosing that path and if you rise above while also staying true to yourself, your a sellout. The black community can be toxic but there’s still some good honest people wanting to see change,it’s always the bad apples spoiling the bunch tho.

So it wasn't the government moving d**** into the neighborhoods and assassinating our leaders but it was the art we used to express our pain and bring back the wealth to our families and the culture back into our control that is to blame

a LOT of our perceptions of the world around us come from the media we consume

no, rap music is not the main issue. Getting rid of rap won't fix the underlying causes of violence. That's systemic s***. Enforced poverty, mass incarceration, etc.

But u cannot possibly tell me that growing up and learning abt the world thru songs that glorify violence won't make violence more normalized.

  • Dec 29, 2021

Of course it does, there is absolutely a relationship between street rap and the nature of crime in our communities. The debate is centered on how much influence the music has. It’s difficult to study.

I’d say bigger forces than a subgenre of rap caused damage to the community but it’s not a constructive genre either

    This

I wouldnt say street rap damages the black community but it isn't helping it either
