If they rapped about cookies and rainbows there would be no more poverty according to @op
This conversation should be about how white corporate America is exploiting and profiting off of the lived realities of these niggas because whether you like it or not, street rap reflects what happens in their lives daily
they’ll end up like this kid
He’s just tryna cling to anything that will give him a sense of identity and purpose I feel bad for the kid
As someone who used to listen to street rap/drill music heavily
I’ve come to realize that the s*** only brings about negative energy, nothing about it actually helps you except getting you hype. Even if the rapper spits a little bit of game, they go right back into the same bs they rapped about 10 songs ago on the same album.
Drill music got these niggas my age and younger hitting the streets cuz they see another nigga get money and hoes off it. When in reality these drill rapper’s future is either death or jail if they stay in the streets. S***, street rap in general have had generations of black men trying to be in the streets cuz they want to be like their favorite rapper, who’s chillin in their gated communities while making this music.
And I know they’ll be people that will say “DOnT BLamE tHe ARt” but that doesn’t apply anymore in this era, black men are legit dying off diss records cuz each side wanted to get more disrespectful.
This idiot really thought he was doing something
Dude turned generations of government failure and lack of social mobility into a diatribe about king Von songs
Gross

They’re getting murdered because they live in violent s***holes devoid of any opportunity with a culture born out of poverty and desperation tf lol
You can’t seriously believe that it’s hunky dory for people who don’t rap
I can’t believe Reagan won, flooded communities with crack while making sure to limit any kind of upwards mobility and now are blaming Empire records 🤦🏾♂️

It can’t be the lack of social safety nets, inadequate access to healthcare care, out of reach cost of higher education, single parent households, lack of rehabilitative justice system, inherently adversarial law enforcement, and stagnation of wages against rising cost of living preventing wealth accrument and home ownership
Nope no sir it’s that damn Nardo wick

One is a byproduct of the other.
It just makes you look silly and reductive conflating flavor of the month rap with centuries of systemic failure.
Capitalistic/Geographical racism definitely played a larger part
‘Street rap’ basically reinforces and reflects their life & situation. Easy to judge their raps from the outside looking in

A lot of people on here are of the opinion that street rap is what convinced people to move into the projects and struggle
They treat it like how boomers treat violent video games

i think people might just be saying that this style of music is a net-negative and reinforcing violence and reactionary attitudes, (not to mention hypermaterialism but thats culture overall)
op shouldn't have been absolutist and say street rap is THE thing ruining the black community but music is influential to all of our minds if you take a lot from music like I personally do, it's influential enough to change your outlook on life
If you would somehow remove "street rap" from reality, it would only remove a symptom, but It would not cure the disease.
The disease is caused by a lot of f***ed up history and a lot of f***ed up s*** that unfortunately still ain't history.
Now Its not completely off what OP is saying about negative ideas that appear in the media we consume affecting us and then becoming reality, but that way of thinking does not paint the full picture at all.
I mean, negative s*** in music comes from negative s*** in real life and the negative messages in music and surrounding it, can add more negative s*** to real life. It's like a cycle.
