There's a reason Kodak, Carti & Uzi have managed to curate such diehard fanbases, and it's because they were some of the last new-school rappers to offer a genuine personality
The current landscape is populated by so many of these dull, derivative artists who have 0 personality and 0 star-power
Cordae - Diet, unattractive nerdy J.Cole
Yeat - Great music but he's a mishmash of Carti/Thug/Uzi spawned directly from internet culture
Don Toliver - Bro literally has no personality, most boring guy ever, watch his interviews he is so stale
Harlow - Personable, but once again he's overblown by internet culture and the star-power just isn't there
Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely - Carti derivatives with 1/8th of his star-power
Lil Baby - Default NPC street-rapper but funny now and then
Keem - Very talented but a Kdot derivative
Fivio - God-tier verse on DONDA but doesn't have the star-power Pop did
24k Golden, Iaan Dior, Lil Tjay etc etc. yawn yawn
I'm not saying these guys don't make good music - they do.
But their personality, their star-power, their uniqueness is severely lacking
When Carti & Uzi & Kodak all broke on to the scene they had such distinctive sounds, aesthetics and stories and for that reason they remain at the forefront of culture
I would also add Dababy to the list as well of the few new-gen rappers to HAVE a personality, I don't like his music but when he emerged he was definitely tapping into something new and carving out an identity for himself
Nigga called Lil Baby a NPC
Carti and Uzi were chief keef derivatives. You just getting old
Eh, maybe sound-wise
(Although Uzi was more a Thug derivative initially imo)
But even from the get-go their aesthetics and visuals were completely different from Keef and unique
agree with most except Harlow. Even you recognize he has personality, i dont think the other things you mention take that away.
Op spittin and right about everyone except lil baby.
You think lil baby is a generic npc rapper because everyone other npc generic rapper copies what he does 😂
baby keem and pop smoke both have personality and star power that showed in their music yeat sorta has personality but he isn't really unique yet. jack harlow has personality but it doesn't show in his music

Yeah Harlow is certainly the most enigmatic out of those I named, for him the quality of the music just isn't there yet, his last project was very safe

Pop 100% did
But we lost him

keem just ridin kendrick coat tails
If you think Destroy Lonely and Keem don’t have personality you’re tripping. Their interviews are very candid and they’re very lucid about both their own image and their studio process
keem just ridin kendrick coat tails
Die for my B**** hype was not connected to Kendrick in anybway
I know niggas don't f*** with him on here but Lil Nas X got more personality than the rappers OP listed.

Agree
keem just ridin kendrick coat tails
the kendrick stuff partially helped expose him to a mainstream crowd but he really isn't riding kendrick's wave at all. keem already had an audience before all the kendrick stuff was public info + keem cultivated a decent portion of his fanbase off of tiktok. talking about the music, keem sounds nothing like kendrick
In 2016 people said Carti, uzi, Yachty, and 21 were all generic and soulless
These artists have to grow and be given time to do such

Keem one of the more interesting of those I named and The Melodic Blue was a great project, I love it, just him as a person or rather as a persona, isn't that captivating
Lonely does nothing Carti doesn't do 1000 times better ; sound, aesthetic, persona etc etc.
