that and Wayne doing 1M definitely caused a MASSIVE shift especially since Em had stepped away
Hip hop going commercial is good explanation. Bc again, as far as I know being a goat rapper was more about goat rapping than having "original bodies of art" or whatever they saying itt
Its not even close to being in the same league as the pillars of the genre.
You CAN NOT love rap, be a rap nerd and not think that is a phenomenal album. Just say you never listened to it. Zero Skips, creative concepts, great hooks, beats, and bars through out. Every single verse is well crafted and couldn’t be any better for what it is

Bro it always depends on
That shift happened a while ago it’s just the biggest thing now because there’s plenty of goat artists who aren’t insane rappers but they have great albums
Ppl want good music we haven’t judged someone’s career by their bars in forever lol blog era raised ppl standards

Nah real s***
Cause when Wayne was saying “the best rapper alive” he wasn’t referring to albums he was barring niggas up 😭😭😭

That was an excellent album tbh
Title is crazy bait cause most rappers don’t have one album as good as C2 or C3 but I understand saying he has the worst ALBUM discog of guys who are put in the GOAT convo
Sure I already made a post about how digging through the "mid" of Lil Wayne's discography was part of the fun back in '06-'09 cause the mid was often still fascinating.
But people saying a cleaner discography that might lean more toward quality over quantity and songcraft over just rapping ability is a "white rubric" is wild.
Nobody ever called Run or DMC the hardest lyricists but they were still the biggest group with some of the most cohesive albums of the 80s. Kanye didn't even come close to inventing that.
It is wild lmao. and nah kanye didn't invent cohesive rap albums obviously I asked when did people start caring about it more than actually rapping

this but for C2.
Nah real s***

Exactly wtf lol
Eminem shouldn’t be in any goat convo but Wayne has. A better discog than him
Em being white is what took him so far or he would just be Royce.

I heard a nigga once say people are follows they didn’t start calling wayne the best rapper alive till he said it lmao nigga started his own campaign
Em being white is what took him so far or he would just be Royce.
wouldn’t take it that far at all
Love how people are stuck on the whole “bbbbut what about the mixtapes” as if the thread doesn’t soecifically ask albums
They can't exclusively talk about his albums and they know that.
It is wild lmao. and nah kanye didn't invent cohesive rap albums obviously I asked when did people start caring about it more than actually rapping
I think they cared about album quality before caring specifically about rapping ability was even a thing. It's not like bars were necessarily the focus of at the beginning of raps history. Became a thing between Paid in Full and Illmatic.

I mean yeah.. but outside of Kanye most mid 2000s rappers best work were on their mixtapes

Idk at what point in history would any of the goats be considered such off weak albums lol
Em being white is what took him so far or he would just be Royce.
Nah he got that far and that much acclaim despite being white not because of it. Vanilla Ice already proved people were ready to absolutely hate white rappers and Beastie Boys already proved white rappers could have plenty of credibility.

Tbh no
Em’s overwhelming sucess is because half the people that listen to him don’t even listen to rap “I don’t like rap but I like Eminem” and he appealed to white teenagers and engaged in white pop culture lol. That’s what took him to being MASSIVE HUMONGOUS. He was white so he inherently had that crossover appeal he appealed to the whites
But either way, his hook game used to be really good, he had good albums, he rapped really well, and he had a very unique jarring persona
