Drake is 100% one of the more underrated rappers in the game today, and maybe all time.

    Srs.

Niggas talk about Drake like he's this pop act, and ignore the work he's put in as a pure rapper. His pure rap catalogue alone is one of the best the game's seen but somehow niggas can't compartmentalize someone being an elite rapper and making find your love.

drizzy got bars could prolly wash 95% rappers today

    yeah

    Most overrated? Jay Z

  • May 17, 2021

Wayne still cool, he just has dropped some just ok projects or bad like Rebirth after C3. He fell off but he still good, specially on features.

Em still drops ok music, last 3 albums have been far from bad. To me, he only has 2 bad albums, Encore and Revival.

But as a true superstar,I think he was able to get away with it tbh. His star is on his last leg now and he’s decline rap wise so it’s hard for him to hide behind celebrity but back then, new Wayne was an event, not an artistic expression.

Yeah and he changed culture forever and it happened so naturally too

There are definitely more clever and competent lyricists, and people who are better at making albums. But his impact during the mid-late 2000's is undeniable

i'm sure you haven't heard many of Wayne's best songs which is scattered through his discography(which is a little messy yes, you gotta find no dj of certains tapes like D2 and The Suffix, you gotta compile sessions and many songs are low quallity)

    I've heard them all

  • May 17, 2021

Saying someones overrated to me just seems like ignorance of an artist accomplishments and what makes them special

I'll say Kendrick cause people will call anything he does a classic. And kinda Drake, cause he drops ok albums, but he always has memorable songs all over them.

    Drake is underrated bro

and yeah, Kendrick is the most overrated rapper since Eminem

  • Wayne treated rap like an athlete where every performance has to be better than the last one as long as his body can take it so his career is like an athlete

where others will treat rap different like as a relaxed piece of artwork that takes time

    what?????

Drake is the biggest rap artist anywhere

    Right now, yes.

But, I swear, Wayne in 07-11 def had more buzz and dominance than Drake at his peak in the USA, especially when you take into account that he didn't make as much blatant pop songs as Drake and didn't have streaming to help him top the charts.

Wayne was the OG "stimulus package" rapper and a lot of people were calling him the best rapper alive and quoting his mixtape songs damn near more than the originals.

Numbers won't explain it all but anyone's who witnessed it could tell you.

I think Em has more classics than Kendrick. Specially if we count Devil's Night as his, which pretty much is.

Drake drops ok albums and calls them a classic. Still love Drake over most rappers though. He keeps it entertaining and not generic and boring like a lot of rappers these days.

Waynes one of my favorites, but his voice is such a wildcard for me that even songs during his peak like 2006, I find it often a bit grating to play out loud compared to other artists

the way he delivered every line during his prime is like hearing the greatest thing ever. Like his verse on Haterz or You Ain't Saying Nothin' Remix

Both have 3 classics imho but Devil's Night/Relapse and Section 80/Untitled Unmastered could be considered borderline classics.

It was the I Can't Feel My Face sessions songs with Juelz. Juelz sounded ight to play out loud but some of Waynes verses were too grating for me. I think its because the songs are in bad quality

    I give him these classics:

SSLP (Underground Slim Shady meets mainstream)

    MMLP

    TES

    Relapse

    Devil's Night

    And good projects:

    Recovery + BME + MTBMB

And he still has SSEP which is dope and shows how good he used to be even before the deal with Interscope and Dre.

Nah I disagree. Drake is a great rapper but there’s better rappers with better albums than him. If he wants to be praised as a pure rapper than he needs to drop a classic pure rap album

I don’t view it like this

His catalogue is right there on DSPs for the most part right next to his albums

If you’re knocking him for not having those records on his albums then sure I guess but they were released, and he has more than enough rap records released that highlight how special he is as a rapper

It’s selection bias at this point.

like Get At These Niggaz, Wayne sounded a lil grating with the beat. Especially the end of song rant lol. But there are some like Rewind & Birds Flyin High that sound great. I think what I'm trying to say is even Prime Wayne sounds a bit screechy when the song is low quality

But if you listen to the 2016 remaster of "Trouble", you get to appreciate his prime voice in HD quality
