Tbh academics and professors are kinda cringe

Like obv there is a massively important aspect to them but like 95% are massive egos that arent actually as smart and important as they would like to believe.

Its like theyre in such a circlejerk part of society they probably cant even help but get an overload of ego boost

  • True. A lot of times these niggas sound like TI when they unnecessarily use relatively unknown words to sound smart. But they’re usually white so the others just automatically assume that they’re “smart”

Yeah lot of fields have an established / agreed upon vernacular that they use to be cliquey. That being said in some technical fields it needs to be that way for specificity reasons

If you can’t explain something in a layman’s way, I assume you’ve memorized the words taught but not the actual theory

  • Sep 12, 2022

I think it depends on what topics are being covered tbh, sometimes precise language is a necessity.

But in a general sense, yeah it’s unnecessary and often comes across as incredibly stilted.

Me personally, I try to maintain balance in my language in terms of universal intelligibility, but I also enjoy using vernacular that I feel is satisfying to say.

  • Can't watch the video rn, but sometimes they just find their pocket or they tailor the way they talk to their audience, like a niche subject with esoteric terms for the experts.

I do agree that sometimes it's a bit much, and also annoying because big words don't always mean smart s*** is coming out your mouth lol. I'm not anti-intellect by any means, and I know op isn't either, but it's the truth.

it’s also a lotta laypeople that slam the mf verbosity button when it’s argument time and they want to make their point
