Lupe's bounce back post "Lazers" needs to be studied.
His run as of late has been insane.
It’s crazy how much better a song can sound when heard in the context of the album. Cake was cool when I first heard it but it sound incredible next to the first couple of records. I love how that experience can make you appreciate a song more

Outside is horrible worst Lupe hook of all time.

Damn, I saw the concept tweets floating around but not the actual audio/video.
And honestly been listening to the album the same way. Just enjoying Lupe’s rapping and the beats

thats the thing. DMIZ was so dense that after some time i even struggled to go back and listen more. but this one has that laidback feeling that i could vibe with it forever

https://twitter.com/iamHBY/status/1806761182864576989Love this and I get how this is striking a chord as “holy s*** a concept album about that?!”
But I fear the other part Lupe emphasized is getting lost
Paraphrasing Lu- “while the album is based on a quote from one of my favorite artists, it is also my most personal work to date”
He uses the Amy winehouse battle rapper concept as a jumping off point for diving into his own experience as an artist
Combined with the samurai thing which is obviously personal to him
I think maybe Lupe sees himself as a starving artist meets a battle rapper meets a samurai
This is a self portrait
I think the first two songs are explicitly about Amy
Then there’s a phone ringing that sounds like it might be an alarm setting? Or was it FaceTime? Leading into cake
Are the first two songs Lupe dreaming of Amy as a battle rapper and then he wakes up and the rest of the album is more specifically his experience as an artist colored through that lens? Just thinking out loud. But that phone ringing means something. And the first two songs clearly tell a third person narrative about a woman we can assume to be Amy and ends with people being hyped up about how good she did in a battle. I think that literal arc might end there and then we get more Lupe and first person narratives after the phone rings

maybe i am to biased but i really like some of these hooks. great freestylin energy to them. its like he was recording verses and improvised at the end of it. authentic feelin to it

Yeah the people hating on the hooks are buggin the f*** out. They want Lupe on some Tyler the creator s*** lmao
Yeah let’s have Lupe spit some bars and then the hook is Tyler pitched up singing “you make me feel like red velvet”

I agree, and for some reason, I still don't think "Drogas Wave" gets talked about enough like it should. That album was brilliant.
Easily top 3 Lupe album in his entire catalog, to me anyways.
