Imma be real, if we include mixtapes and unofficial material then Lupe automatically takes the cake imo. We can’t forget about the F&L leak, Arista-era material, and Tetsuo season which are all fantastic displays of Lupe

Ngl Kendrick’s tapes and unofficial material doesn’t really stand out

Lupes mixtape discog is severely underrated

Yeah he is. Lupe is more influential than K dot. Hell Kendrick is one of guys Lupe inspired. Anyone that is lyrical and and came up in early 2010's has been influenced by Lupe. Can't say the same about Kendrick.

Lupe's lyricism alone puts him in the top 10. Add in the 2 classics, hit records, awards, and influence and impact on the game, he's top 5.

The cool has undeniable hip-hop classics on there. The coolest, streets on fire, put you on game, hip hop saved my life, etc are all time great records that will be relevant and timeless forever

Lupe himself said Kendrick makes better music.

You can inspire someone and not be their sole inspiration.

Other than lyrics Lupe does nothing better than Kendrick. Especially musically

Kendrick is more relatable, Has more hits, better performer, sells more, more acclaimed. You named it

    Lupe
    Is better lyrically.

Kendrick is better at almost everything else.

is just my opinion tho keep calm

"Critict bait" is lazy and just wrong criticism lol its just invalidating someone's art cause you think it was done to please a certain demographic when especially in kendrick's case its not since hes been speaking about those topics since overly dedicated

This seems like one of those threads where OP pretends to be neutral, but slowly loses the plot and reveals the fact that he is indeed a hater

just to be clear on the "critic bait" s*** so it doesn't seem as vapid

its not the topics - nothing wrong with what kendrick is saying

its the oversaturated last minute additional jazz instrumentation and production , skits and interludes that bother me and felt forced to please white critics

the tpab singles were beautiful and powerful anthems without the added production, "i", "the blacker the berry" , specially "alright" and then he added this knockoff d'angelo black messiah (which is an absolutely brilliant album) jazz production to make them please the industry and the grammy's

when he doesn't need none of that s*** , talking on the singles he ruined "I" on the album, "alright" was overproduced it would have been his biggest single ever if he kept it simpler, and even "blacker the berry" on the album has some additional boring unnecessary production to please white critics that despise rap but love jazz

my cornball rich art school fake hippie colleagues loved the album "and they don't like his other stuff because it doesn't feel as legit", it makes me want to slap them in the face, just because they hear thundercat jamming it makes them discredit k-dots other work

just to keep this clear I still think the album is like an 8.5-9.0 , and im not hating on kendrick, I just believe the last minute over instrumentation and the pseudo deep s*** ruined the lasting appeal of most of the songs

gkmc for me is between a 9.5-10

    tpab is between an 8.5-9

damn is the only album I consider lower between a 6.5 and a 7

    ( section80 is an 8 for me )

and I explained my complaints with tpab
