It doesn’t make or break you as an artist because technically that’s not where it was founded from
Many can claim they know what they are talking about but the origins clearly said differently
One of the first songs in hip hop
“ Now, what you hear is not a test I'm rappin' to the beat,
And me, the groove, and my friends are gonna try to move your feet
See, I am Wonder Mike, and I'd like to say hello,
To the black, to the white, the red and the brown,
The purple and yellow. But first, I gotta
Bang bang, the boogie to the boogie,
Say up jump the boogie to the bang bang boogie,
Let's rock, you don't stop,
Rock the rhythm that'll make your body rock
Well so far you've heard my voice but I brought two friends along,
And the next on the mic is my man Hank,
C'mon, Hank, sing that song!”
It’s all about the vibe you give off and if you have it or not, this is an undeniable FACT see as how this is where it started from, emotion = better , how you make people feel = better
Lyrical ability is cool and an added part to hip hop but it’s not what started it don’t get it twisted
It was impressive when rap was young but now, I don't really care unless I fw what you are saying.
Did op just ignore the 90s?
i dont agree with this at all. Hip Hop wasn't even really its own thing when this came out.
I just scammed a white ass b**** that look like iCarly
Then smoked a zip to the face I think I’m Bob Marley
I mean rappity rap doesn’t really matter but lyrics definitely do. They aren’t the same thing.
These “it’s all about the vibe and the melodies” niggas gotta realize that almost every great song has lyrics that the people connect to

This was before the 90s did you read OP???
Like I’m sure people sang along to this song word for word when it was hot
These aren’t great lyrics at all.
These aren’t great lyrics at all.
What are great lyrics tho. I’m not looking to this track for Multics or double entendres.
Back when it dropped I’m sure niggas was rapping every word
if people only cared abt where things were founded there'd be no growth
theres all kinds of styles and avenues in hip hop for a reason and different things that 'make or break' each

Okay but basically it was about the vibes and bringing out the fun, lyrics here does nothing for u
If even argue that the lyrics to a song like “long time” by Playboi are pretty important to the overall track
This was before the 90s did you read OP???
I know fam this came out in 1979. IWhat i'm saying is to say that lyrics don't matter when in the 90s, lyrical ability mostly mattered, is a travesty. Shiiiit, i don't even have to mention the 90s when THIS came out in the 80s:
