thinking about getting the full series on blu ray/dvd this is the next big drama series I want to tackle.

Bought it for myself as a Christmas gift last year, it’s a great collectible to have, especially if you can get the complete collection set which comes with all of the extra s***… but removing the discs from the book they come in is absolutely awful. I gave up after the first few out of genuine fear I would eventually break one, and I’ve seen tons of instances where people actually have broken them.

You will love it man. It’s incredible. Idk if you knew this or not, but one of the main writers for Sopranos (Matthew Weiner) created Mad Men, so if you liked Sopranos you’ll def fw this

just saw the scene where pete confronts bob about his past. looooved the way he reacted to that tbh. pete is such an interesting dude but he truly respects hustle. he has so much respect for don and the way he made himself, he couldn't help but see the same in bob.

also season 6 really ending sooooo strong. first half was kinda slow but damn we got some movement now

i dont want season 7 to be the end

I usually group seasons 1 and 2 together as “worst of the best” but I’ve been taking my time with season 1 this time around and it really is fantastic.

Watching the mannerisms of certain characters, especially Don, before it all starts to unravel is a bit surreal. Obviously the performance of Jon Hamm throughout the whole series is great, but there is something really special about season 1 that’s lost the further we go on.

I also wish the Mad Men Suite didn’t become so rare after season 1. It’s a great piece of music that tugs on so much, but it’s almost never featured in later seasons.

i don't like in the later seasons how they reduce betty screentime and turn her into an insufferable rag. like, she got some obv problems from the very beginning but in s5 she becomes so unusually annoying with her shenanigans.

also on my rewatch the first four seasons share the same quality with s4 almost rising to the top because some particular standouts like "the suitcase" and "the summer man" but s5 having the upper hand as the best season. can't wait to see where i'll rank s6 and s7

I feel like the writers did that to showcase the effect of Betty seeing Don & Megan’s relationship together. She is fat now & has to see Megan in those tight clothes, and then that in turn, makes Betty hate Sally even more cause she gets reminded of Don by seeing her & causes Betty extreme mental anguish

Also, it is set up very early on that Betty has a massive insecurity when it comes to aging and becoming “not beautiful” even more so than the average women of the time. Her beauty is the thing that she puts the most stock in and as she approaches her mid to late 30’s she feels like she’s losing that, and therefore losing her value and purpose

Don is 100% in the right about being mad at Megan for asking to be in the Beauty & the Beast commercial. She sat there & b\*\*\*\*ed & moaned about wanting to be an actress, and now when things get hard, she wants an easy way in by taking part in that ad
