No more searching for mixtapes, unreleased blogs or hacking sites, it's all curated by the algorithm, s*** is sad and controlled.

Searching out for new music via the many avenues that used to be available on the internet was part of the whole experience, all the legendary sites have been taken down.

    RIP to all the greats

    www.rnbxclusive.com
    www.im1music.net
    www.blacknbeatzvibez.com
    www.jams.to
    www.urbanascor.com

And yes the experience of finding music via Tinymixtapes, RYM, /mu, aoty, last.fm will be there but less and less people are using them

the vinyl community exists and the dj community too has a love for crate digging and picking out records to tune into that they would have never had come across on Spotify.

i know where you're coming from though the algorithm is a double-edged sword.

Idk we have RYM and it’s pretty easy and accessible to find music more than ever

If you’re not someone who invests time into music then you most likely just listen to whatever is popular and that’s to be expected

I think how Spotify uses their pre made playlists for vibes and moods is what gasses a lot of artists into mainstream fame purely because it just so happens blank artist is in x amount of popular playlists which is s***ty. They’ll put artists like Drake or Billie Eilish into damn near any playlist

When old people made each other mixtapes back in the day that was curated just for them, blogs always had a crowd they catered to. Seems no different than before

You can’t group every new person in this generation into a box.

A niche love for music will never completely die. Their will always be people that love and discover music the same way people do movies for example.

The casuals probably won’t, but they never did to begin with. That’s why they’re called casuals.

  • Mar 30, 2021

You're right OP me or anyone else has never discovered any music ever we just wake up open spotify and pipe the new releases playlist directly into our brains

Why wouldn't they put the most popular artists in playlists? Especially someone like Drake that has multiple genres like R&B, Dancehall Pop and more. That's literally what people want to listen to but they sprinkle in new people to help people experience new stuff

They can still discover music forums still exist, explore tab, social media, artist/song radios, and YT recommendations.

Crate diggers are not your average listener the s*** is damn near a lost art. Crate diggers love music there basically music connoisseurs (for lack of a better word) they will dig thru hundreds of records to find one sample one break one song that sounds amazing to them and to them it's worth it. Your average person does not listen to music like that at all. I don't agree with op either tho there will always be music lovers who dig for music wether there doing it on youtube, SoundCloud or whatever platform they have available to them.

Just follow blogs and IG pages that cover new/emerging artists, they still exist

If youre not trying can you really say its not possible anymore

This website posts songs from undiscovered artists every week: www.somesongs.com

Yes you can follow blogs but they have agendas and there trying to tell you what to listen too there getting paid out to promote certain artist. And im not saying you're wrong you can certainly discover music like that but it kinda plays into what op is talking about where people are being fed what they should think is good. At the same time tho most people don't follow blogs about things there not interested in. There's actually some great conversation to be had about this it's a complex subject.
