Wait uncut gems is only at 52% audience score on RT

That’s because uncut gems basically marketed hard to all the NBA bros and it got a huge opening weekend off that. But it also meant a large segment of people were walking in not realizing it wasn’t a typical sports movie. Hence the score

    He’s not wrong actually

They’ve done studies and found average RT scores have only gone up since it started

That’s due to the fact there was a more selective pool of legit critics back in the day and now there’s been almost 150+ new bullshit critics on YouTube or some small ass publication that d***rides everything that have been added to inflate the scores up. Studios love to invite these hacks to their premieres because they know it’ll make a big difference to their RT score and they can then market their score in their trailers

Studies on rotten tomatoes sounds funny

A little too long but got my seal approval. Even with the killer soundtrack and the usual Safdie formula.

Yeah I think they def could’ve shaved some time off this especially the beginning

True but I don’t think it ever really came off as a sports movie. Don’t remember the marketing too much either tbh just personally never expected it to be a sports movie.

Yeah trailers never did. But then you got Adam Sandler and KG on ESPN, TNT, all them sports publications hyping it up as a crazy movie about the NBA and that prob gave it a much larger exposure than what the trailers were getting

They are idiots if they went into uncut gems expecting a “sports” movie…. Marty I can understand the confusion here and expecting a full out ping pong movie but not Uncut gems

It’s so funny seeing some people online like “I don’t wanna see a movie about ping pong” and a completely other group is like “wtf that wasn’t about ping pong”

Saw it yesterday. This was good and enjoyable and kept my attention throughout its runtime. But I also don't remember being all that THRILLED by the scenarios for some reason. Like sorry, I really started to not give a s*** about the dog after a while lmao. But Timothée and Gwyneth were both great. Some of the one liners Off first watch, I can't put it above movies like One Battle After Another or Sinners this year. But I enjoyed it!

idk if I’d say they’re idiots. It’s just casuals who didn’t watch trailers but saw KG and Adam Sandler on TNT and expected a sports comedy

i liked it overall, but in terms of narrative structure it felt too similar to uncut gems and good time. this might honestly be my favourite Timothee performance to date, but it also feels like Joshua Safdie unintentionally boxed him out of a real best actor push. there just werent enough true wow moments for Timothee to fully break through, even though the performance itself is really strong.

ive always felt this way about uncut gems and good time, but the weakest part of those movies is the pacing, and Marty Supreme suffers from the same issue. theres nearly an hour where no ping pong is played at all, and instead its just marty running around the city doing whatever it takes to get the money. that part is enjoyable at first, but it eventually starts to feel like a chore to sit through, the issue just becomes that repetition dulls the tension rather than building it imo.

the climax was underwhelming. the endo vs marty match at the end did not feel satisfying as a viewer, he goes through all of this and it just ends with him hugging endo and thats it. i thought the ping pong scenes, which i thought were supposed to be the primary force of the story, were underwhelming as well. i really wish the cinematography during those sequences had been more dynamic or just more cinematic. this felt like the perfect place for safdie to really shine as a director, and instead it came across as restrained.

the ending confused me as well. maybe I missed something, but is it supposed to show that Marty seeing his kid is going to make him retire? Not really sure what was implied here tbh

not saying i did not enjoy the movie, i thought it was good, but outside the first like 30-45 minutes and TImothees performance, it doesn't feel like the movie excelled at anything else. it's like Safdie got sort of scared after the 45th minute when writing the script and went back to what he knew best.

Agree with the third paragraph especially, but maybe if I knew there wouldn't be as much emphasis on that aspect of the movie then I wouldn't care as much. Couldn't help comparing it to how something like Challengers was shot tho

I think if you pay money expecting something that clearly wasn’t advertised as such and then you turn around and get mad…. Maybe watch the trailer? Learn what you’re purchasing before spending money?

tbh even the trailer doesn’t properly prepare you for how batshit insane that movie is lmao

That s*** made Good Time look like a walk in the park
