he reports purely on numbers relative to other movies and not based on media narratives. he may form an opinion based on the numbers and roll with it but i wouldnt consider that bias

Venom just did $90M opening which was more than its pre-pandemic first movie and Eternals could do $70M maybe even less that is pretty ass for an actual marvel movie that was hyped up to be oscar worthy and critical in the next stage of the MCU

Ant-Man and the Wasp and Shang Chi did 75 pre pandemic and pandemic so it’s really not out of the realm for lower tier Marvel films, especially ones that are introducing new characters. I don’t even roll with every MCU movie like that but dude clearly has a bias against what the movie is trying to tell. Venom is one of the most popular marvel characters period, first movie and toy sales solidify that. I always knew second would make big numbers. Really incomparable to Eternals which some people I’m sure don’t even know is a Marvel movie is so obscure

The film could be the worst movie ever made but if it has a popular ip it’s gonna sell pretty well

Plus it's a sequel to a successful original. Eternals is a no-name property with one "star" actor who hasn't had a mainstream successful movie since what 2008? When Wanted came out? (not counting Malificent for obvious reasons)

and people really appreciate seeing Carnage on screen for the first time ever. That’s gonna sell people further

the marketing push for this was huge and the trailer is burned into my mind from being placed in front of every movie ever

Ofc a sequel - featuring the first live action appearance of Carnage at that - is gonna do more than an artsy looking Eternals origin film, no matter how hard it was pushed

you could argue pandemic but Venom did more than the first movie opening weekend showing that people will show up and sequels historically do less at the box office period

in my mind theres no excuse for one of the most hyped and marketed marvel movies since Endgame to be one of the lowest marvel box office openings ever

not to mention every single person who saw venom saw the eternals trailer

There’s actually plenty of valid reasons that this is the case.

1. The trailer is f***ing boring

eh i liked the trailer bc for the first time in Marvel history i wasnt fully sure what the movie was about

tickets were going like crazy when they dropped too my theater was basically sold out on the first day for the first time this year
