even just looking at this thread title makes me feel peaceful, it's a good reminder to do a self-check in whenever I see it pop up
Im glad this thread is beneficial to u man
appreciate it man
my problem always has been consistency but lately found some 'techniques' that been working well. Like simply being mindfull of sounds around me or even a positive visualization
sounds like the process is well underway then
becoming aware of sights and sounds around you is a great way to start to tap into your consciousness
if I have one suggestion since you're using an app, try Waking Up by Sam Harris. I personally found it to be much more of an insightful and involved process than headspace. he teaches you so many different techniques (over a month so it's not overwhelming), and also delves into issues like the nature of self so the impact of the practice extends far beyond just the 10-20 minutes you dedicate to meditation
give it a shot! you get one month for free, id highly recommend doing the 30 day intro course. it is quite pricey after that (~100/year) but sam is such a f***ing g that if you can't afford it then his team will just give you a free subscription

youre doing great work fam, thank you!
Mindfulness means being awake. It means knowing what you are doing.” “We must be willing to encounter darkness and despair when they come up and face them, over and over again if need be, without running away or numbing ourselves in the thousands of ways we conjure up to avoid the unavoidable.”
“Breathe and let be.”

Im watching the headspace netflix tv show but will def give that app a try anyway since i also fw Sam Harris too. Have you read his book with the same name? Should be interesting
I started doing little 10 minute mindfulness breaks last month. Breathing, returning to center, finding perspective on the body, etc. Good stuff.

yes, it was incredible. truly life-changing, im not even tryna be corny when I say that. the app comes with a HUGE amount of interviews and additional insights/monologues from Sam, personally im okay paying the subscription price but since you can get it for free its 100% worth it

that's great, don't stop! for me at least the true value that meditation provides to my life really improved when I started to extend the things I practice in those 10-20 minutes to the rest of my life, so it's cool to hear that youre doing this throughout the day

Damn, thank you fam. Just ordered the book lmao, Sam's approach to spiritually always seemed pretty grounded and reasonable so it should indeed be great
will definitely peep the app after i'm done watching the show

I also do 10-15 minutes of stretches so the breathing carries right over to it. It always surprises me how easily mindfulness impacts my mood and perspective. I dabbled in it years ago, but making it a habit has been great.

He’s not at all preachy (the same can’t be same about some of his other ideals but that’s a different story) and allows you to make your own decisions and discoveries which is huge
i found headspace was a little too limiting in instructing you exactly what to do whereas sam just kinda guides you in the direction you might need to go

Man a good stretch is essential to me, I have to do that first thing in the morning before I even piss or drink any water lmao. Perfect way to start/end your day
I’ve only been doing it for a few years so I’m in no ways an expert, but it really is the most valuable and important thing I do for myself
Every time i see loser/mgtow/ tranphobia/ homophobia/ misogyny, depression, etc. im bumping this
To all part of ktt meditation gang: Remember that all thought is only byproduct of a myriad of things. They do not exist as a singular force like how we think and feel them to be. Illusion.
dont identify with thoughts or feeling, let them pass thru. And see reality for what it is
Surrender to the present and watch the world open up!

Yup. that teaching is perpetuated thru all spiritual practices and even most philosophies and sciences.
In the zen perspective, this is No-self, and the law of dependent co-arising
