another Moment from ole Sam
"Take a moment to marvel at the power of thought. Even the happiest person is never more than a thought away from being miserable. And the most miserable is never more than a thought away from being happy. Perhaps it's time to recognize that there will be no peace in your mind until you break this spell that thought casts over everything in your life."

Notice your relationship to time. In particular notice how much your happiness seems to depend on looking forward to things. To meeting your goals, to the next event on the calendar where you expect to have fun, to the drink you'll have with dinner. To anything that isn't right here in this moment.
Now, there's nothing wrong with planning for the future, of course. But this habit of living for the future is pernicious. It's the very posture and practice of dissatisfaction and it robs the present moment of its reality. Which is quite a trick in fact because the present is the only reality.
So whatever the character of your experience at the moment, please take this timeless admonition to heart: do not live for the future.

I'm getting back into the habit of doing this every day. I've been ramping it up from once a week to every other day. But, this is benefiting me so much, I'm going to do it every day just to collect myself and become more aware of everything around me and inside of me.
starting to glimpse that feeling of headlessness
It is generally believed that hope is a good thing and that to be without it is synonymous with depression or despair or some other form of unhappiness. But hope is the state of wanting things to be different than they are. And as such is a failure to truly accept the present moment for what it is.
Psychologically speaking it is the other side of the same coin as fear. So it's at least worth considering the possibility that hope is often the very thing that makes real tranquility impossible.
very interesting perspective
