this would explain the "all the music sounds the same" takes i see from people
well also ppl are lazy and dont wanna do the work them selves in finding and discovering new music they just want it brought to them with no effort
I'm not a Playlist guy
However I am a youtube recommended guy when it comes to discovery
Or the playlists can be more diverse? I’d hate if you were in charge of MTV in the 80s with this mindset. You’d just tell Michael Jackson to make music like Quiet Riot or continue to be stagnated lmfao
I was selling crack in the 80’s
you (and a lot of us including me on this site) also are old ass niggas tho.
A lot of 20 year olds be going by playlists.
i’m early 20s too and i don’t like playlisting tbh and i never have
Playlists have just replaced radio for the average person. Friend of mine is on tour right now thanks to his songs getting traction through playlists. Never would have gotten that sort of traction through radio not being signed to a label
Whatever effect it has on music as a whole or established artists is one thing, but I’d say playlists have made it much easier to get people to listen to your songs now as a young artist than 20 years ago. Not to say it’s easy. It’s just a different game
RYM
ktt isn't willing to see the light unfortunately + i don't think rym has a "artists like this" feature that's easy to see
Yea bro! I actively listen to about like 20 genres so new artists add up quickly
shut up
Yeah it suck’s every one listens to the same music so they have to make these colorful metrics to appeal to the massive ego of the music listener who thinks they’re music tastes gives them some value in any way
Playlist are own/bought/sponsored by the labels, of course there is no creativity.
The labels also owns shares of the streaming services, the internet music revolution has been bought
not sure i agree with mick jenkins, i think that’s the easy excuse
i legit don’t think i’ve actively listened to a playlist that isn’t my own, ever, apart form techno clubs playlist like the berghain one so i can find the odd tune ID
but most of my listening is done via digging, checking twitter, what people are posting on here and generally staying curious for new music
maybe most people don’t do that? not sure

yep most people don’t do that.
Most people have a passive (not active) interest in music, unlike the majority of people on this music artist fan forum website
It sounds like the dude in the tweet is expecting underground hip hop from a mainstream playlist lmao
Tbf there’s like 5 playlists that pretty much copy the Rap Caviar playlist
Rap Life
Rap Heavy Hitters
On Repeat
It’s Lit
Get Up & Go
New In Hip Hop
Hip Hop Hits
The Plug
GymFlow
HipHop Workout
These all virtually have street rap artists and mainstream rap acts
And also like….the last 2 playlists seem very redundant. Both are for working out like comin we don’t need 2 of those.
