You're asking people that are typically in their early 20s, (usually younger these days 15-20) to learn about the legal aspect of the music industry. Just sticking to hip hop, these are kids that are potentially from impoverished areas. They're in the streets, and have a thousand other things to worry about. I'm not saying they're absolved of any fault in this, but, All they care about in that moment is making a song with their friends, maybe it gets hot and someone notices. You're asking kids who maybe never seen more than $1000 at one point to say no to someone flashing $10K and a gold chain in their face.
It's the predatory practices that need to be addressed, not the lack of kids knowing legal jargon at 15-20.
I’m saying our people are going to have to learn to understand contracts or forever be in these unfavorable positions. Period. It doesn’t just have to do with the music business. It’s important in regards to all industries.
I don’t think it’s right that someone can scout impoverished talent and look to sign them to something that’s essentially a slave contract. But it’s happening and isn’t going to stop because no one forced them to sign it. I don’t expect those making millions off of our people’s lack of knowledge to come save the day and make things right. So, we’re going to have to do it for ourselves or it won’t get done.
It isn’t just about 15-20 year olds learning about contracting alone. People from our communities need to be learning this regardless of age. Former artists who have gone through bad contracts, current artists, former execs, lawyers, etc. need to make others aware of what’s going on in these industries and give game back so we can break this cycle. In a perfect world, an adult wouldn’t try to sign a teenager to an unfavorable contract. But this isn’t that. So yeah, the artist, their parents/guardian, a relative, etc. is going to have to learn to do better and understand what’s being signed before doing so. Or the same situation is going to continue to occur.
We live in a world where people get rich by paying others the least amount they possibly can in exchange for the products of their labor. You combat that by knowing better. I’m not saying any of what’s going on is fair. I’m saying it’s just how it is.
Ight I read into the situation and this was not them being dumb. Their lawyer and the label effectively conspired against them.
QC about to do to Migos what Bangbros did to Mia Khalifa
At least they let her use condoms from time to time. Migos, on the other hand, been f***ed raw.
FREE THE GUYS
No way they in that deal and lil baby and yachty got better deals. Must be trying to finesse some s***
Yachty already showed he ignorant so he might not care. When it come to lil baby, I feel like he got enough ties to make P not want to risk pissing him off
It sounds f***ed up
But aye who were these niggas before Pee gassed their entire life up
This never fails
I think it’s safe to say they wouldn’t be s*** without Pee’s connections and initial money and QC was definitely built off their success and maybe some things need to be reworked but Pee created “the Migos” to where I can’t be mad if he feels like he should be locked in to that brand for life
I wouldn’t do that to an artist but I see Pee’s POV
There's no way Pee is in the right, if he has them in a lifetime deal.
The Migos were created thru Pee’s resources
It’s the same s*** as Meg The Stallion except Pee knew the Gucci’s and Coach K’s and all the pieces that made the Migos special outside of course their own talent
We gon be screaming Free Lil Baby from QC just like we screamed Free Weezy from Cash Money in a few years
It sounds f***ed up
But aye who were these niggas before Pee gassed their entire life up
This never fails

Depends on when this deal was signed imo
